I clicked the thread and thought - would take me 8 seconds to get my earphones in and listen, but I'll just wait 2 hours or so, and see if anyone else was arsed and thought it was good.

Yeah sorry guys but you do need 'em , to get the full effect !
I just tried it. Bloody amazing tbh! Everyone get your ear phones out!

After the F Word then... and a cuppa, and the dogs been walked... and if nowts on TV, and if I'm not playing Poker, or on the phone. Maybe.
Its years of clicking unfunny YouTube links on HEXUS that has made me very wary in clicking anything that someone else thought was funny.
Nah Stewart , its not really in the 'funny' league as such, more factual , honest its worth getting off your backside for your earphones!
It really is. I didn't find it funny.. but it definitely made me smile/laugh a little. It's weird how realistic it feels.
i think i'll pass. i dislike getting my hair cut for real, let along 'virtual' cut.
There are other sound effects too then. e.g. the womans voice, match box, etc
Not really very hard to do, but it's still interesting. Hearing (and the brain's processing of it) is interesting. My left ear got badly damaged by an infection when I was a kid, and after two operations I only have 30% hearing in that ear. 11 years later, my best friend, whose mother was a speech therapist, pointed out to me that I talk with a drawl. It's because over the years I've learned to aim my voice to the side of my head that can hear it best.
I'd never even noticed at all, but watching the video of me making a speech at my wedding, you could easily think that I have a facial palsy or something (though to be fair I'm worse when I'm drunk).
While these recordings are actually holophonic, the description of production is WAYYY off...
"These are called Holophonic sounds and are made to be listened to with headphones. They are recorded with a dummy head that has two microphones, one in each ear. The shape of the head and ears must be similar to a human head."
There is so much more the HS than just dummy head recording ! I remember when Hugo Zucarelli "invented" it in the early 1980's and we all went "wow", but the details were quite secret. At the time, we guessed that it needed very high quality phase referencing in the recording stage, not the usual run of the mill stuff we have for home use even now... but now we can see it is a bit more than that.

and for a nice album track, listen to "Get your filthy hands off my desert" on Floyd's "Final Cut"... niccce
edit - oh budder, just finished listening and realised they are MP3s which defeats the whole object ! Matchbox is still the best, esp the up/down and behind.
Heheh, these are great! I stuck them on my mp3 player as my headphone lead wasn't long enough, but that makes it even better because you can sit away from the PC.
They may be mp3 but they sounded really good through my headphones. I found the woman one quite freaky, especially the last bit! What is it she's saying?
1.21 GIGAWATTS!!!!!
That's pretty cool - agreed, you need headphones to truly get the effect. The way you can hear the matchbox moving around your head is frankly scary
