    Wireless headphones....sugestions needed!

i am planning to buy wireless headphones for the primary reason so as not to disturb my fussy neighbors. i have 2 questions:

    1. how do u normally connect them wireless headphones? thru the TV's audio jack? or can you connect it thru the optical or caoxial output of your surround sound system?

    2. what wireless headphones can you guys recommend? (i have a 42" Sony Bravia Full-HD TV, a small studio flat and a budget of up to £180 maximum). with DTS, Dolby or Surround built-in,etc.

You're not going to get DTS/DD built into headphones dude - if you want surround headphones then there are a few out there that are priced in the £50 region, probably less but surround headphones are a bit of a gag to begin with - stereo imaging is pretty much surround anyway and you don't need 5.1 speakers plonked on your head.

They're a gag because they're being made with the "surround sound" as a focus and not the overall quality of the sound itself or the build quality of the headphone.

Compare a Medusa surround headphone with a Sennheiser HD485 or above (£45 onwards) and you will instantly notice the difference even though the Sennheiser is only stereo it offers superior qudio quality and a much nicer soundstage well suited to movies, games and music.

Headphones also have a 3.5mm input jack not optical or anything. The surround headphones have 3x analogue 3.5mm jacks that plug into your usual 5.1 output for those connections.

Seriously if you want decent headphones get wired, wireless is prone to interference and the further away you go the weaker the reception gets.

The Sennheiser ones I mentioned comes with a removable 3 metre cord which plugs into one side so plenty of room to sit on the sofa whilst it is plugged into your TV. For £45~ it's well worth it but I'd go the extra £ and get the HD555 for an even better experience!

Though saying that, your budget is quite high and for that money you can easily get the higher end headphones from Grado and Sennheiser each of which will wipe the floor with anything lower.

what he said really.....wireless just doesnt cut the mustard. Apart from anything else, they need batteries and suffer interfrence from the weirdest things.

Yep, I recently bought 'surround sound' headphones (the Medusa's) and they are not a patch on the Sennheisers I was replacing. I returned the Medusa's, had the Sennheisers repaired and have never looked back.

As far as wireless goes, I wouldnt touch them personally.

Know i have a set of Sennheiser HD650's

One of the best items ive bought - considering i used to break at many sets of headphones these have lasted a good two years and theres not even a mark on them. Good sound as well!
