Its all over the news today, and the are loving the hype; but is it just LA \ Hollywood hype, and will all die down, or will our American cousins finally get it?

I have a fair few friends in the US and their attitude is - no. They'd rather watch 'funny Rugby' and rounders instead. (That's American 'Football' and Baseball, btw)
if it was going to happen it would have happened in '94

The US is really not all that concerned. They prefer their own games. I also think that they are more interested in Posh Spice, who looks like an evil stick insect.
Not around too often!
Apparently, one of the problems is our simple American friends can't get their simple American heads around a sport that can go on for 90 minutes and end 0-0. If its not 48-92 to the New York Shadow Ninjas, they don't get it.
Baseball is actually quite good though, I often watch it on Channel 5. There is a reason why almost every other country in the world has Football as their #1 sport though... bloody Yanks.
There are tears rolling down my face.If its not 48-92 to the New York Shadow Ninjas, they don't get it.
It is Inevitable.....
maybe if someone changed the name from "saarker" to "freedom ball" or possibly they could make a "saarker world series", which would of course only feature US teams.
the Budweiser adverts were funny, but i get the feeling theres a large grain of truth to them

If they didnt invent it then they have no interest. it is like with Rugby they see passing the ball backwards a step back in life so they invented a similar game were a similar ball could be passed forward.
Makes me laugh how the can call Baseball the World series when their the only ones who play it !

Yep. I remember a few years back when the NEW YORK Yankees beat the NEW YORK Mets, in the World Series, and the commentator goes '... and the Yankees are the champions of the world!'
Eh? A team from NY beats another team from NY, in a tournament that only North American teams can enter... so how exactly are they teh champsiuns of the worlds!!1
No more the champions of the world than Man U are for winning the Premier League.
I go to America.
A lot.
Been going there ever year since I was born.
When I went years back Aged 12 ish, no one cared about football.
Couldn't watch it on TV, no one recognised the teams no one cared.
The last few years I've been over there:
Saw specialist "Soccer Jersey" shops.
Saw 2 dedicated soccer channels AND good games being shown on major sports channels - as fillers but it's a start.
Was constantly questioned about what club I supported, and who is the best team etc.
It's happening. Just slowly. It'll never be number one, but it'll get bigger than basketball at some point - I'm sure of it.
Apparently 'soccer' is largely the field of young girls in America. Soccer Moms are, I understand, the mothers of girls who kick a round ball around after school. With that kind of stigma it's unlikely that guys will start to play it.
I guess there's also that whole American attitude that if the kit doesn't cost a shedload the game is worthless.
(Thanks Evilmunky)
Eagles may soar, but weasels never get sucked into jet intakes.
No chance...for all and more reasons than the above posts.
Interestingly enough - can't source it now, but sure it was true, after 94 the American FA wrote to FIFA with these suggestions:
1) Spilt the game into 4 quarters (higher advertising revenue)
2) Keepers to wear helmets (Hey Cech you trendsetter!)
3) 1 goal for inside the area - 2 goals for scoring outside the area.
lol
Right a quick lesson.
In America FOR BOYS soccer is the most popular sport (until the age of 12 where they get plucked my bigger sports)
All Soccer needs is more money. Beckham will 100% help this, and if TV revenue picks up, the game will - upward spiral time.
This is why American Boxing is on the slide. The big un's get grabbed to play American Football - more money.
Football rule changes (Apart from the backpass rule) = Sick.
