    Painting furniture

I've got a piece of furniture I want to paint red

Just the black bit at the top...it's woven seagrass, so organic, and currently painted black with some fairly heavy finish.

I want a good even coat, anyone suggest the best way to go about it? I'm thinking that aerosol cans from B&Q aren't going to cut it, and I don't want to fork out for anything too expensive.

Does HSS have stuff like this for hire? Any suggestions? People are going to be sitting in it, so I don't want any paint coming off on clothes....

    hows about one of these

    http://www.hss.com/g/61491/Small-Cel...ay-System.html

    Still, that's £33 for a day...not including paint...

Maybe I could pull all the doors off the kitchen and paint them at the same time....might make it worth while...only £41 for the weekend....

Definitely think you're headed in the right direction as regular tin of paint brushed on would just crack and peal on the sea grass. You wanna work that paint in and they spray should do that nicely.

why not give aerosol cans ago? it's the cheaper option and
if you give it several thin coats and then seal with a clear acrylic spray sealer it would be ok to sit on

You'll want to use a waterbased paint for that so it properly stains the fibres.

An acryllic *might* work but I reckon waterbased is a better solution, no pun intended.

You'll need to prime first to cover over the dark original colour, then spray with your new colour.

Finish off with a flexible varnish or sealant of some sort.
