I was just talking to an American friend who is a Dr. Who fan. He thinks that Dr. Who is anti-American because of the following incidents in the programme:
One show had New New Yorkers as a race that died out because they were all drug addicts and a virus was passed with the drugs. There was a sub-race/class of people who were stuck for years on a motorway to nowhere because they were too stupid to know better.
In the episode set in New York in 1929, he think sthat Americans were shown in a bad light because of their building the Empire State building while the poor live in tents. Someone says “How can they be building that if they can’t fed the poor?”
Apparently there were others, including a buffoon of an American President who gets killed. To roars of applause in my house.
Does Dr. Who reflect what we feel in this? Are we really anti-American?
