    Any Sky Gurus...

    and not you mr moore...

    Basically, we have moved our sky dish from the building it was on, and want to put it on a pole for a couple of months (because that building is getting demolished and a shiny new one is being built)...

    this would be fine, except that we (dad and I) cannot get any signal no matter where we aim the dish... going into the skybox (just sky, not +/HD) the signal settings are:

    Code:
    Strength [|||||||||.............]
    Quality [||||||||||||.........]
    Satelite Lock : OK
    Network ID : 0000
    Transport Stream : 0000

    which is odd.. i've tried powering the box off/on a few times (off at the wall), reset the LNB (and other advanced settings)... but it won't get a network id...

    any Ideas?

    You got a satellite finder, a compass and the coordinates to point at?
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Sounds like he shouldn't need one, we didn't use one when setting it up. Best way is to double check you are in the right sort of direction compared to the other dishes in the area. Does sound like an LMB problem though, almost as if it needs fine tuning (the 5 notches underneath).

    none of the above, its pointing east-ish, we've basically got it pointing the same direction and similar point in the sky just on the ground rather than 10 foot up... and we live in the middle of nowhere so the 10ft shouldnt make much difference...

    All my googling seems to have people with 0000/0000 networkid/transport stream as not having a satelite lock - whereas we've got a lock...

    the guy at work who is ex-sky is on a 2 week holiday, but may have to bug him when he gets back if we cant sort this sharpish

    Re: Any Sky Gurus...

    It's worth having a patient fiddle. I set up my dish every time I move and I usually find that I need to do a bit of the notch-by-notch stuff to get a strong enough signal. I don't remember ever having a lock and no ID though. Fine-tuning, as 99Flake suggests.

    Re: Any Sky Gurus...

    right... had some lunch, went back to look at the tv... 'no satelite signal is being received' but it has now got a network id and transport stream number... but no channels...

    will do a 'new installation' and see if that sorts it out... then we can stick it on a pole and go from there

    Re: Any Sky Gurus...

    i think you really need to adjust it a bit.

    the last time i played with a sky box a strength and quality like that gave really dodgy reception, with some chanels being unavalible.

    get someone to move the dish around whiile someone watches the meters, when they get higher leave it like that and you should get better TV out of your box

    yup, if we whack it on a pole it saves someone standing outside holding the dish, so we'll give that a go and hopefully everything will be fine

    Re: Any Sky Gurus...

    That should be enough signal for it to work, I've had them running at less with no problems.

    Things I'd suggest are:
    • Use mobiles to instruct one person adjusting the dish from another in front of the TV.
    • Restart the box and see if there's any difference.
    • Take a compass out to somewhere there are dishes and work out the direction, take it home and check against yours.

    It's worth ensuring you have the maximum signal before troubleshooting elsewhere, but I'm inclined to think from your diagram that this isn't the problem.

    Have you considered you might not actually be pointing at the right satellite?

    Re: Any Sky Gurus...

    tbh, get a sat bleeper it's easier that way thay are very cheep, about £15/£20, clikky
    but have you tryed moving your dish up and down and left and right ?
    also rember there are other satalight up there as well as skys* one ( *sky dont own a sat thay just rent out space on the astra sats) but i'm not to shore if the sky box will pick up the other sats or tell you if you have locked on to one of them.
    if you want some good advice, get a sat bleeper or ask here tell them spud2k1 sent you
