    Anita Roddick dies age 64

Quite a shock for some reason. Guess it's because I'd grown up with her being almost a brand name...

I guess she wasn't really part of my generation and i have to be honest I've never heard of her either. When I saw the headline yesterday on Sky News 'Roddick Dies' in Spoons I thought it might have been Andy Roddick.

I don't want to change the topic of the thread or anything, but who decides when someone died if it is tragic or a bit of a laugh?

Is it different when a woman dies? Is it only tragic if they die of an illness? Or is it just personal opinion.

I ask because when Steve Irwin died, leaving behind his wife and two nippers, everyone on the forums was like 'ROFLAGOMS! Lets all draw a picture of a Stingray!' etc.

Now this woman died, and its all 'Tragic loss, RIP'

What exactly are the rules for this sort of thing?

Well speaking personally I can't say I ever find anyone's death particularly rofl-worthy.

In this case, I suppose Steve Irwin spent his entire career deliberately dodging venomous things whereas Anita Roddick was an apparently healthy lady and 64 isn't old by modern standards... I think the world's a poorer place for the loss of both of them.

    But I see your point!

Guess it depends upon whether the individual is in any way ridiculous. Not that I agreed with the Irwin bashing, felt it was in bad taste and said so, but you can appreciate that if they're in any way mockable, they're going to take some stick whatever they do, dying included.

I personally feel that just about all death is tragic, but once sufficiently removed, anything can be funny, or made fun of.
