Hey Rave - Did you write to The London Paper?

A letter in The London Paper caught my eye last night:

"ENLIGHTEN CYCLISTS
I drive a bus in the City of London but I'm not sure for how long: who knows when it will be my or my fellow driver's fault if we hit a cyclist without lights? Lights on bikes must be compulsory at night. I have seen lights on sale for £1. I use them on my own bike."

• Bus Driver - check!
• Cyclist - check!
• Keen eye for a bargain - check!
• Having a rant - check!

edit: I forgot to put in that the correspondent was "Richard", so I should add to the above list:

The grammar only slightly lessens the impact of that pun .

I wrote into the Brussels newspaper recommending something similar. An amnesty day, when you are allowed to run over a cyclist who darts in front of you on the circulaire, or smash into the clown trying to cut in front of you in a 1km long queue. It would work really well with buses though.

• Lyrical, expressive prose style - No!

I would have written a better letter than that- I know for sure that bike lights are compulsory at night for a start- although I must admit it's an extraordinary co-incidence. I have actually considered writing in with a column for TheLondonPaper containing some top tips for bus passengers. Cyclists without lights are one of my lesser irritations if I'm honest, although there are plenty of them who seem to have no regard at all for their own safety.

You should write in with the column though. I reckon they'd go for it.
