    Re: caffine

I (rather stupidly) went out on payday when I was working the next day and was out all night. Sobered up but was half asleep, so bought some pro-plus and a 4 pack of red bull to keep me going throughout the day.

Had the first red bull about 9am, and it kept me 3/4 awake for about 45 mins. So I knocked back two pro plus....

    CHRIST!

Before I knew it, I was leaning on a shelf, sweating, shaking, head all dizzy, and disorientated...They must have mixed and hit me really hard.

I never realised you could get that bad from caffiene. It's a caffiene overdose by the way, stop drinking coffee!

    Re: caffine

Best thing is to have something sugary followed up by something heavy in carbohydrates (sandwich or crisps are good) along with a decent amount of water. Sometimes caffine's been known to trigger a hypo even in non-diabetics, especially when combined with lots of artificial sweetners.

I've been completely wigged out on Pro Plus pills before - a most unusual experience - the body's trying to work at 110% and the mind is on about 30%. At least, that was what used to happen to me.

Still, several mugs of hot, black tea keep me fully functioning each day!

    Re: caffine

I used to take heaps of caffeine, from espresso, Red Bull and Pro-Plus when I had to stay awake to meet a deadline (no less than Agent in the other thread). I don't normally have any after effect until 36-48 hour of being awake. And even then, it's somewhat controllable.

But I do find the effect to weaken after a continuous period of 'caffeine abuse', so I stay clear of it during period where I do not need it (I do not find caffeine addictive). That way, I won't need to take as much when required. I do not find caffeine addictive, and am fine without my 'fix'.

Anyway, I half suspect it's just in your head. Either that, or you are very caffeine intolerant. Just as a note, serious case of caffeine poisoning is fairly unlikely from drinking coffee (your stomach will be full long before). Even with caffeine tablet, you would have to try seriously hard.

    Smile Re: caffine

I used to be highly addicted to caffine, or more accurately diet coke. i was unable to function in the morning until id had 2x500ml bottles of the stuff in the morning, and would usually have another two at lunch.. id also have redbull/relentless or pro plus if i was on a night out..

I kinda went cold turkey to it on a 2week holiday to ibiza (well replaced it with alcohol+various other substances) and when i came back, after getting over the ibiza blues i felt alot better for it, i was less peaky during the day, and yes overall i had a bit less energy it was smoother and not like a rollercoaster, i was also more sociable and better in control of my temper! and the most bizzare thing is i can now handle beer again! usually i get a rather large hangover even after 2 pints, but now i can drink like a fish and almost feel fine the next morning!!!.

    Caffine is bad! mmkay!

Im ok with caffiene, I think im pretty much immune to it from coke now, I drink far too much of the stuff but oh well! And pro-plus doesnt seem to do anything for me, ive never tried taking more than a couple though.

    Re: caffine

I tend to try and control my caffeine intake, or it gives me palpitations.

I used to drink a lot of pepsi when I was younger and studying and didn't realise the effect it was having until I tried to sleep. Now I avoid any caffeine after about 3pm, or it does affect my sleep.

    Cheers,
    Stephen

Used to drink a lot of diet coke / pepsi etc until about 2 months ago. Changed overnight to water with a little 'high juice' concentrate. Much better and much cheaper.

    Re: caffine

Caffeine isn't bad for you, as long as it's in small doses then it's fine. The problem with your body is that it relies on it too much and then you end up drinking too much of it. I don't drink coffee, and neither would I try to anymore. I just get addicted to it. It took me quite a while to get off it, and I had serious cravings. I love the taste of it too.

You'll do your body a hell of a lot of harm if you drink that much a day. It's things like this that link to central nervous problems, heart problems and even brain related problems. I don't think people realise how much damage they're doing to themselves, and it can even get worse than things such as obesity in some cases.

    Re: caffine

cutting out caffeine in one hit is hard!

I had some horrible headaches when I went "cold turkey" earlier this year...did it be accident, as I we were staying with friends who had no coffee, and they didn't tell me the tea was decaf...just thought it was cheap tea!

3 days of it....paracetemol helped. Thought I was ill...then had a single cappucino and life was back to normal!
