They have such a machine in Tesco I believe. Chuck all your mixed coins in, and it gives you notes back.

not all stores, worth asking a few friends/workmates if they have seen one in the local supermarket

I took up ~£170 not long ago in change, not sure how many bags it was but it was a whole shoebox full (that capsized when I tried lifting it out of the rucksack) and BoS didn't bat an eyelid.

I watched one of my mates use a change counting machine at Sainsburies - a lot of coins didn't get accepted, and obviously they take a little commission. All the coins that didn't get processed he ended up chucking into the charity box because there was a good carrier bag full of change that it couldn't filter. But that machine has been there for years.....maybe Tesco's have a much more shinier more improved version.

am i the only one getting increasingly pissed that banks only have enough staff to open 2 of 6+ window positions, but have multitudes of staff whose job it is to hang around & tell you "oh, i can't sort that, you'd better join the queue" for anything more complex than "i want to withdraw some cash with my cash card"

a lot of supermarkets have change machines, they take a small percentage for charity and issue a recipt that you can go get cashed.

i do beleive thay are called coinstar, there one in the sanberys(sp) super store near me, and i just found one in my verry local morrionsons(sp)

I hear you there my man. Sometimes I've been so close to responding to their "Can I help you with something?" question with a, "yes, you can go round the other side of that counter and open up another till/service desk."

I've always found the extra wandering staff member to be quite helpful, even if it was to just point me in the direction of whatever self service machine I needed to complete my transaction.

Thinking about it, can't you get your coins paid in via the Night Deposit slot? Get a sturdy canvas change bag, sort the coins into demoninations and drop in along with a deposit slip giving your account details.
