Now, if you live in the USA, you can go direct to the charity that produces them and, for a $399 fee, buy 2 machines - one for yourself and one to be donated to a 3rd world child.

If it was the 3rd world child who was auctioning the laptop, based in nigeria or wherever, then I'd be worried

Yes, but instead of someone buying it off ebay, if they actually bought it from the OLPC website then they'd get one and so would a child in the third world. Which means that 2 laptops would be on their way to needy children rather than just one.

So he is actually a helpful nice person, because he is selling that ONE laptop, someone has bought one for a poor person. If he hadn't sold him the laptop, the buyer would of given nothing to the OLPC scheme.

hey if someone wants to pay over the odds then let them. sure they arent clever but that doesn't mean that you should call them idiots. and let the merchants rip them off. its them being ripped off not you. $500 looks like the right price we'd have to pay in rip-off britain anyway.
