It depends... if you're as lazy as me you can make it so thats its next to no work (at least as far as the 3rd year) and just about get away with it! Though I know some people on my course who voluntarily work nights and stuff for no good reason... theyre mad i tell you!

The only student nurses Ive bumped into on the wards seem really shy and hide behind the senior nurses all the time! Mind you, with some of the consultants around these hospitals I think you need a "matron" style nurse around to keep them in check! Theres one consultant who seems to insist on calling every medical student either "you there" or just "boy" depending on what mood hes in! Its very amusing though!

have u ever noticed the segregation between medics and student nurses? they just dont talk to each other, like the other doesnt exist.... well werid. Ive tried and was just looked at like i had three heads, u need each other in order to your job and if cant get the groundwork in as a 'newy' u wont get it at all.....

I agree. ALthough I have noticed that student nurses get ignored more than most by the doctors Ive been with, more so than the qualified nurses. Oh well, I shall make the extra effort from now on!

I agree with that as well, although on my most recent placement, they were all lovely and really approachable (HO, right upto the consultants) which gave me the confidence to go and speak to them about stuff, im at the stage now where i dont need to run to a staff nurse everytime, i can get things done off my own back.... so hopefully i can carry that on

Medics should make an effort to talk to us (us as well tho ) cos its us u need to assess a patients condition, we spend the most time with them and are aware of the situation... it makes things harder when u cant even be polite to your collegues

(edit) not that im saying you too arent tho :d
