    An Aircraft Engine

As the title says, this is an aircraft engine fitted to DC10-30, A300-B and B747 (classic).

Side on shot, of a complete engine (this particlar model is for a B747 classic)

This is one of the attaching points, the Forward Engine Mount. The yellow lump of metal is tooling to enable to move the engine around the shop. The Forward Engine Mount uses only TWO bolts to attach it to the pylon (at that location).

This is the Aft Engine Mount. Four bolts are used here to attach it to the pylon.

    Approximate stats are...
    Weight 4000Kgs
    Height 270CM (+ stand)
Length 470 cm (+ nose cowl + exhaust nozzle)
    Width 240 cm
    by-pass Ratio 4.5/1

Of course the RR 8104 is the real king daddy!

(Yes, I have an aero engineering degree and am thus allowed to be 'in to' these things )

    Re: An Aircraft Engine

Hehe, everyone has their preferances to engine types. I'm fascinated by the technology in them.

This is just pictures from the shop. I'll take some piccies of used components and slap them up (in this thread).

Comparing CF6 to JT9s you can see how they were desgined. I have no idea if we will do RR engines too (I hope so).

I'd assumed it was intended to go in For Sale/Trade and was going to remind sleepyhead to put a price on it...

I got some pics of a few JT8's we got in the workshop, There is an extremly burnt LPT in one of them but having trouble putting the pics from my pc posted here, i uploaded them to my esnips account but the best i can do is this..

    JT8D-15 - eSnips, share anything

lptovertemp - eSnips, share anything << you can see the 9 nozzle pattern in the vanes.

I'll have a go on my own pc tonight, might be the works pc.

AFAIK, the sale price is around US$1.4 million for a half decent engine.

Ooo nice piccies Gtech, liking the overtemp.

On the theme of duffed engines...I present to thee one which was installed on an Aircraft that over ran the runway.

The worse section of the fan:

Part of the High Pressure Compressor:

Obviously the airframe took alot of the brunt, unfortunately I have no pictures of that.

OOH nice bit of FOD there. Those C1 blades look like they've been munched on. I got a few FOD pics.
This one is the first stage of the HPC-High Pressure Compressor and the second is the last stage of the HPC. Lovely FOD.
