My wife has become obsessed with Facebook, so much so that I have to wait my turn to use my pc; the pc I paid for and put together; the pc I maintain and secure like any good geek should. So having got rather fed up with this I have decided to do something slightly evil: I have modified the hosts file so facebook now points to 127.0.0.1 She hasn't been back on the pc since I have done this. I wonder if and when I'll cave in?

meh, I know two marriages broken via myspace. It's mad, I admit I tried Myspace, facebook etc, but i was banned by my teenage daughters as they saw it as 'their turf'. And to be honest, myspace particularly was so full of desperate bunnyboilers it was scary! It's just all so boring & trite.

The only reason i'm keeping my account open at the moment is because in the near future i'm going to do a half marathon and it's the easiest way i know of to get in touch with a lot of people i know and some i don't really and ask them for sponsorship :/

I use facebook to keep in contact with my cousins in London and Sydney.

I'm not the greatest fan of any of the social networking sites, but I don't hate them (well, yes, ocationally I do).

I have a grand total of 15 friends on Facebook, a lot are family, but the rest certainally aren't complete randoms like some have.

I don't get the whole Facebook App craze. The photo sharing is brilliant, I send my mum album URLs when she is down in Angola.

I don't get obsessed by it and if someone asks me to join something or add an app I dont want, well then I don't add it and often just block it.

It is a very useful tool if used right. No more than that though.

Oh, and two marages broken my MySpace? I wouldn't even bother putting money on those two marages breaking anyway, no-one would take the odds. If a social networking site is enough to split two poeple up, then there is much deeper problems there in the first place.

I'm waiting for the "MySpace ate my hamster" headline in the Sunday Sport one of these days

As for Facebook, I like it as a kind of group-calendar thing for organising trips/parties/etc and as my family are 300 miles away it comes in handy for sharing photos and messages to stay in touch.

But... First person to make an application that blocks all other applications and requests for applications will be on to a real winner! Biggest mistake FB ever made, allowing the applications in.

There are a couple of good apps, like the poker one, a lot of people go on there to chat with like-minded people and generally have a bit of fun, but most of the others are completely pointless. (like the one-time quizzes)
