Question On Sick Pay?

Hi guys just have a few questions.

Im a full time student in university but work 19 hrs a week (sat and sun) at a factory. I have been off for the past 3 weeks as i was in hospital getting my appendix out and the doctor told me not to go back to work too early as i do alot of lifting.

Well i thought i would get sick pay but was told today that im not entitled to it as im a student. Is this correct? They said that i could claim it of the government but not them. I mean my 19hrs of work a week is the same as an adults 19hrs of work is it not?

Just looking to know what ive to do etc. I live in Northern Ireland.

If there's anything in your contract (if you have one) about sick pay, then that should be followed.

Notwithstanding that, you should be entitled to Statutory Sick Pay - note the section entitled 'What happens if my employer says I do not qualify...?'
