Bubblewrap inside a PC

Oh following all this advice I'm thinking I will take it apart after all. Her sisters boyfriend has built many a PC so if I get stuck I'm sure I can ask him to help me.

Just thinking about this again...what would be the need to take the hard drive out, it's securely fastened in, or do you mean the platters could get smashed when the box is thrown around?

Also, if I take all the components out, I'll have to mess about reactivating windows won't I? Not sure if I even know where my XP disc is so I'm not sure that's such a good idea.

Take out the hard drive too incase its bashed around - its not good for it really, although it probably wouldnt come to any harm.

No you won't have to reactivate windows - your not actually changing any hardware so windows will never know what you have been taking your PC apart

Highly unlikely that the hard drive will suffer left in, thought could pop it in anti static bag then bubble wrap just in case. Very quick and easy to remove these, and better safe than sorry.

Definatley remove cooler though as it could easilly damage the motherboard!

Would any damage be caused by putting some inside during transport? As I mentioned in a previous thread, I'll be going to Germany next week and will be having my PC sent over with UPS (my dads company has a contract with them so can get quite a large discount). I'll obviously be wrapping it up reaaaaally well, but I'm worried that when it's banged about a bit the massive Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 will get damaged and may fall off so I'd like to put some bubblewrap inside so it isn't able to move.

I could just take it off but I had trouble getting it on in the first place so I don't want to if possible.

Take out everything that's easy to take out - graphic card, sound cards, memory, hard drives etc.

Then stuff the inside with that anti static bubble wrap and package the other parts separately.

Posted the bags today mate. Think there was either 6 or 7
One is a bit small, no idea if it will be any use for anything, the rest were a mixture, although they should fit all major PC parts in without a problem

I'd wedge some polystyrene in there.

I once dropped a case off the side of a table, it had the side panel and front panel off just leaving the front metal L shaped strut at the front right that connects the top of the case to the bottom.

Naturally I tried to grab it as it fell and I held it by the L shaped strut, it slid down the palm of my hand, slicing it from top the bottom. That was bad, and the blood, well I thought I was going to collapse.

Ouch.. that's got to hurt.


I put skin into one of my computers... It was a 5 or 6 year old case... with razor sharp metal casings for your CD/DVD Drives. Me being me, forget about this and wrenched one of them off, causing three or four cuts to my hand..

Well, considering I need these bags to help transport my PC to Germany since I'll be there for the next 4 months, it won't be any time soon, but if I remember when I return, I'll gladly do so!
