Re: Any quick cures for a mouth ulcer?
You can get them if you're eating a lot of sugar too, apparently..
Re: Any quick cures for a mouth ulcer?
Erm very very stressed in the past month, and no more sugar than usual, but my sugar intake appears to be higher than most!
Re: Any quick cures for a mouth ulcer?
is the warm water/salt combo a good mouthwash substitute?

there ya go. Stress wipes out your B vitamin balance, across the board.
get a good B Complex multivitamin, and pop a few folic acid to kick things off. Add some probitoic yoghurt, and you'll be good.
:)

Any home-made remedies to get rid of a mouth ulcer quickly?
They say salt but it stings like hell!!!
i've always used bonjela.
Re: Any quick cures for a mouth ulcer?
I'm going to bump this because I found this stuff today in super drug, its like bonjela once but cheaper and you get 6 instead of 2, it hurts like hell (not surprising as it has sulphuric acid in it) and made me dribble so bad from one side of my mouth I thought my work mate was going to 'act FAST'. But damn my mouth feels so good today, ulcers still there as i only used it a few hours ago, but they don't hurt at all, and that's during eating and drinking aswell.

Shameless bump to help the sufferers out there :D

As has been said before stress is the main cause, salty water does the trick.

The way to cure it hurts like hell but works
Use your tooth brush on it...hard! really hard...it'll hurt like crazy for about 5-10 seconds and then....it'll stop. The body's natural pain killers work fast if you scrub HARD.
Then you put fresh salt on a clean finger and press it in. You may pass out now....but keep your fionger there as you topple.
And that's it...it'll heal really fast. You've opened the wound, cleaned it and sterilised it with salt...and it'll be gone within a day or two..
If you LEAVE it...with that horrible white coating on it....the moth's saliva stops it healing.
All of what I've typed is what I do and it works...but it hurts like hell.....really hurts :)
No pain...no gain :)
Blimey... 'who da man?!'. Clearly Zak is. I just use salt.
Re: Any quick cures for a mouth ulcer?
Has noone suggested vinegar?
A warm mixture of vinegar and sage (like a sage vinegar tea!) works wonders with the ulcers you get with tonsilitis maybe it will work with this? (if youg gargle with that when you have tonsilitis it will actually cause the ulcers to fall off! you spit them all out its vile)
Sage tea (with fresh leaves) is really good for sore throats and tonsils in its own right... I swear by it, I've grown quite accustom to being struck down with tonsilitis once a year (which isn't enough to prompt your dr to have them hooked out apparently, needs to be 3 times in a year or as many weeks or some such). Anyway sage is a really good antiseptic for you mouth give it a go.

I get mine just before getting a bad cold mainly and a few others also, so I think with some its the immune system. It would not surprise me if an over active immune system could cause them.
Re: Any quick cures for a mouth ulcer?
I use "Adcortyl" if I get a bad one - it's a cement like paste that forms a layer over the ulcer which, kind of like those squidgy plasters for blisters, takes any pain away straight away and lets the ulcer heal without it getting aggravated

Yes, I find that a glass of salty water always calms me down...
;)
Re: Any quick cures for a mouth ulcer?
I tried Zakk's method when I last had an ulcer...it hurt a bit, but worse than that...it didn't seem to make much of a difference!
Maybe I did it wrong...
