I cant recommend getting a check-up at a Physiotherapist and Chiropractor enough

Even if you dont feel problems now, its worth the relatively low cost to get a full-body check in case there are some underlying problems that'll cost you a lot of time and money in the future!

I called up a local sports therapy guy, hes been working for 16 years and he said no one has EVER called him up for a check-up before, people only ever contact him once they've had an injury.

I contacted him in the first place because this past year ive been working 9 hours a day at a computer (on a fairly bad chair), do little exercise other than walk to/from work, and previous to that ive had sciatica and generally bad posture. Most of which are entirely my fault, i understand, which is why i wanted to go and see someone who could point me in the right direction towards fixing those problems. So i knew he would definitely find problems.

    *break*

After checking me out he made a list of everything he found, from minor problems, common problems/characteristics, and problems that are small now but would be huge in the future. I only had to see him twice and he gave me a list of exercises that would work towards fixing my general muscular imbalance and ran me through them to make sure i could do them properly.

He told me that now i have the exercises i can just get on with doing them and dont have to go back to him. basically. He said he has clients that come in every week and pay him to help them do exercises, simply because they are too lazy to do the exercises themselves.

Anyway, check it out now for cheap, or pay a lot of money later in life

ps i also went to a chiropractor for a nuber of sessions last year when my sciatica kicked in and he helped a lot

I never have thought of this! Its a very clever idea!!! Well I am only 21 at the moment, but I will go when I am around 30

It is probably worth visiting one every 2 years or so even if you don't have any problems...

Re: I cant recommend getting a check-up at a Physiotherapist and Chiropractor enough

I had severe back pains when I was 21, I was sceptical about Chiropracters but when I found out the company I worked for then offered a special discount I decided to give it a go - was perhaps the best decision ever! I regained a full range of motion, mobility and flexibility that I never knew I had, certainly in young adulthood anyway!

I go back whenever I have a back problem, sometimes a training incident will put it out of place when it was already weakened already.

What's more, there are other health benefits to going to the chiropracter.

On the other hand, I find physiotherapists a bit of a waste of time (depending on what it is), although this is probably NHS treatment for you. Again, when I was 21 and I complained about severe back pains, I was referred to a physio where I only felt worse after the excercises....which, ironically, made me consider a chiropracter in the first place!

After years of, sometimes unbearable, back, neck and shoulder pain I went to a chiro and am now much better (although it has not gone away completely). Even though I am better I still go every 3 months to make sure the bad days of back pain don't return.

Have you ever been DSE assessed?:

Employers have a legal (and I would say moral) requirement to do such assessments.

Long story, but basically i work in a design office that is separate to the main HQ, the work station has not been assesed for at least 3 years, and none of the equipment has changed in all that time either. Basically im out of sight and out of mind according to HQ, if i want anything changed around here i have to make a big deal about it and look like a bad employee.

The chair ive been sitting on has had at least 4 years worth of daily 8hour use from previous employees too, and because im only employed here for a year they can just keep delaying getting me any new equipment until i leave

That's not an excuse. If they sacked you for asking for proper equipment then you could have them for unfair dismissal anyway.

They have a duty to all employees.

I know that legally i could get my way but im just a placement student and my manager just pretty much ignores when i ask for new equipment, its literally just me and the manager at this separate design office, so anything i want done i have to hassle this guy, who is then in charge of my references down the line etc

its so late now that he has won, i have a month left and he just has to ride this one out until i leave, and then same again with the next guy.

I will advise the next kid to push the demand for new equipment early on and persist
