Saracen is absolutely right. I do not believe there is a sinister and deliberate intention to collect personal data for the purposes of profiling (not yet anyway) but the accumulation and retention of information for various purposes is happening now. It wouldn't take much to glue it all together.

I suppose we just have to wait for the NHS to say that all the DNA samples they've ever taken off of you (for any purposes... through any means...) are now stored and recorded by the government...

Sometimes I do wish that we ended up with a really nasty government lead by a complete **** like me. I'd monitor chat rooms and internet forums and such like and anyone who spouted the "if you've nothing to hide, you've nothing to fear" nonsensical mantra, I'd have the bastards and their families dragged out of their beds and hanged and then pass laws that acted retrospectively saying anyone who trotted out those lines were enemies of the people.
