    Marvel or DC?

    Hi everyone,

I have posted in a couple of Film threads about my interest in getting into the comic book world. i`ve got a list fo a few comics I`ve been advised are a good starting point and have spent a lot of time lately on wikipedia reading up on comics mostly about batman.

Now after going though loads of links on wikipedia and following links to other articles I came accross the final crisis comic and was reading about it and saw that the issue released in may was outsold by an issue of Secret invasion by Marvel.

This got me wondering baout which Universe has the better stories the DC universe or the marvel universe so i thought i`d ask on here. I know its prolly like opening a can of worms but i just want ppls views on the pros and cons or each universe?

    Re: Marvel or DC?

well from those other threads you can tell I'm a relative outsider myself although I've always been a big marvel fan from the Iron Man and spiderman cartoons and the X-Men comics which I loved .. I was hoping gambit would make it into the movies but apparently he is in the wolverine spin off

Some stupid Mac Parody video's on youtube of course

    Re: Marvel or DC?

I never really got into the cartoons much when I was young and the X-men films I thought were ok but didnt love them.

This year however Iron man was great, the Hulk was brilliant and then Batman was something else. After how great those 3 films where I really started to wish I'd read some of the comics when i was young instead the only comic I ever read was the beano and even that wasnt every issue lol.

Im hoping to buy batman year one over the weekend as well as the watchmen and Sin city book 1.

I have gathered from reading an article that DC characters are more proud of their powers and have aquired them because they want to do good whilst Marvel see their powers as a burden on their normal lives.

The videos are rpetty funny love the way Superman has a chip on his shoulder about how His film was crap and batman is better

When I was younger I was loved Marvel comics. I preferred their style but I think it was mainly down to the characters and their abilities.

Boo to all. Yay to manga/manwah!

Seriously though, I read what I like, forgetting all about the Marvel or DC universe. Read and enjoy is all I can say.

Hehe...and thanks for the Marvel/DC PC Mac Parody...so for this is my favourite.

    Re: Marvel or DC?

As much as liked the X-men films I much prefer the good old days of the comics So many characters to choose from and you were never short of a decent bad guy either.

The most annoying thing in the movies for me was Rouge. They seemed to build up a lot of the story around her but ignored some of her most interesting times. I can't remember exactly but I believe she was a bad guy for a time at least, possibly a gf of Magneto, she could also fly having absorbed but not let go of another characters powers (a sort of wonder woman wannabe).

    Re: Marvel or DC?

The one featuring Hellboy is quite amusing too. Oh and the Hulk.

From what I remember (which is probably wrong anyhow), wasn't Rogue part of a baddy team that stole stuff and not part of Magneto's entourage?

Didn't she gain her flying powers and streak in her hair from stopping her leader from escaping?

(Massive brain fuzz from reading/watching various cartoons/comics so it's all mashed together.)

    Re: Marvel or DC?

I loved the avengers back in the days although I've always thought Captain America was rubbish as he only had a puny shield. The best is Mighty Thor.

Go for Wildstorm (an offshoot of DC), they publish some of DCs most interesting titles, like The Authority.

    Authority FTW!

Joker would never get away from Arkham if he had Midnighter to deal with Batman beats up the bad guys .... Midnighter would rip off their head!

    Re: Marvel or DC?

Apparently, according to the other half - Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are much more reflective of Batman Year One and he's a massive fan of Watchmen so it sounds like you are heading down the right reading roads from that point of view.
