    Angry Gameservers

So today, around 7pm, after 4 and a bit years of our clan being with them, GameServers completely nuked 5 of our CS:S and HL2 servers and our 1 TF2 server.
This means 4 years of coding, scripts, maps, cfgs etc etc etc.
They also deleted our ventrilo server.
Not sure how many of you know exactly how much work this included - the servers where running mods like Zombie Panic, Gungame, SourceMod DM, etc etc.
Clan leader is now in Gameservers IRC and it appears someone has severely fecked up somewhere.
What I want to know is, are we due any kind of compensation, given all the hard work that's gone in to it!

    Re: Gameservers

Did you not have any facility to do a backup of what you had installed? If so, and you didn't do so, I doubt you'll have a leg to stand on regarding compensation.

In fact, unless you were explicitly paying for backups, I doubt you'll have any chance anyway. I think every hosting company I've ever used has always had clauses in their T&Cs about users being responsible for backing up their own accounts.

In any event, whether you stand a chance or not will almost certainly depend on what the contract said .... but I suspect it's unlikely.

PS. I know nothing about Gameservers - not my scene. The above comments are general.

    Re: Gameservers

sorry m8, they dont cover any backups, i work for a GSP and we tell the customers to backup there stuff as we cant control if a server is going to blow up and wipe the lot out.

tbh its common sence not to assume your stuff is safe and to have a copy on your pc, and also upload stuff like that to your website as well.

as you have just found out

if they have any brains whatsoever they will use an undelete app you find your game folders, then they can restore them and move the mod files to a new install as we do when someone drops a clanger

    that or lose a customer.

then again a lot of GSP's dont want to bother doing that stuff, unlike us

Your responsible for your own backups with gameservers which has always been the case even when they where Clanservers.

I've had a server with them since back in 2005.

    Re: Gameservers

If it was as much hard work as you say it's common sense to back it up yourself regularly.

Just one of those things, nothing you can really do by the looks of things. Unfortunately some people learn the hard way.

I'm not the CL , (and therefore wasn't the one who signed up) I'm just curious is all.

I thought maybe they could have given us warning before nuking everything

Did they say that they deleted or did they say it was due to hardware failure?

Hardware failure or accidental deletion as far as I'm aware.

Guess you got a fun weekend ahead of yourself rebuilding and tweaking it!

No point killing anyone over this - get the server back online and start playing again.
