    interviews and sicknotes help please!

Right bear with me on this one - But i need some advice. I’m currently signed off work because I have a broken jaw which has been fixed with some plates etc etc. Surgery was a couple of weeks ago so am now on the mend I can talk fine (altho its sore after long periods but cant eat properly).
I have been looking for a new job for ages now and all though ive had a couple of really good interviews I haven’t been able to close the deal and get the job.
I don’t see many jobs I can apply for but i came across one yesterday that’s near where i live and offers good money and is something that i think i would be suitable for. The question is am i allowed to go for interviews while im signed off with a sick note from the DR?
If I was to get it and they started asking for references that would cause problems with my current employer im guessing? Im really not sure how to play this on one - any advice gratefully received

What's stopping you from going back to work at the moment?

Couple of things really the biggest being that I cant eat - I have lost loads of weight and don’t have anywhere the energy I would normally
The jaw itself is still sore not unbearable but talking for long periods sets it off hurting again.
Im due back at the hospital on Monday to see how things are going i think im on the mend but they could conceivable say otherwise. I wouldn’t fancy going back in to work full time at the minute running round at 100mph like normal.

So the question is would you even feel able to give 100% in an interview?

If not, I wouldn't go to the interview. If yes, then ask work if you can start doing half-days or something. That way you're demonstrating that you're working to the best of your ability and are not treating this interview any differently.

I may or may not have this right but if you're signed off you cannot be in the workplace or you are causing your employer/potential employer complications that relate to Health and Safety for which they could be penalised.

Supposing in your case for example, your low energy level means you can't exit the premises in an emergency? You're not even supposed to be there and this may put others at risk.

Besides, you need to get well before you go back to the hubbub; that has to be your priority - I'm not sure you understand the full potential of a situation that could permanently threaten your health. Get well first is my advice.
