Question e-Learning Website to teach users how to build PCs & setup IT Technologies

    Hi Community,

I am developing an e-Learning website to teach users who are unfamiliar with IT technologies, how to build PCs and setup IT technologies and wanted to ask the people of this community what they would like to expect from an e-Learning website of this type.

What are the most important components to consider when building PCs?

What is important when setting up Wireless Routers?

What is important when setting up your Anti-Virus / Firewall software?

Is there any IT Technologies that you would like to learn, so that my e-Learning website could provide materials?

I would be much appreciated if you would take the time to answer these questions and if you have anything else to add please do state it.

    Thanks

All of them are equally important. It's so easy to say CPU, memory &/or graphics, but the PSU, mobo are equally important imo

Don't use them, they are, imo, inherrantly unsafe. Hardwire everything where possible in a business network.

Antivirus, needs to be low profile, small footprint & effective. Feirewall software is not as good & should not ever be used as a subsitute for a good hardware firewall.

No thanks. When in doubt, post on Hexus

    Hexus has the answers.

I'd agree with 0iD about pretty much all of that! Though i'd add that you should include a section on HOW to find what hardware you want, explain what all the componants do, and why you need different ammounts (why 4Gb of ram over 1Gb? etc)

Wireless; explain the risks and differing types of security and range etc.

I'll assume from the brief description that you're aiming at people NOT setting up business networks, in which case, most people won't end up with a hardware firewall though it's worth mentioning they're almost always better...

And as with 0iD - no, but thanks for the offer!

Most quality routers these days come with SPI & mac addressing etc etc.

I've had to explain to a number of people about putting password protection on routers. It seems obvious to most on here i'm sure but some sort of guide thats 'fool proof' would be usefull.
I even spent 5 or 6 minutes explaining to one person that the password to get into the router settings was not the password for the wireless internet connection.

    It's somthing many people miss.

I would be guided by the Comptia A+ exams syllabus. If you can pass the exams you basically can build a PC install the OS and connect it to the Internet and network.
