    CV Harvesting

After searching for a new job I have noticed it seems as if some recruitment agencies (one in particular) is harvesting CVs

They put jobs up as ASAP and advertise them for months, never reply to emails and never seem to follow up or even answer the phone. Its always the same name on the email contacts and its really odd!

Is it to boost their numbers so when advertising for potential business they can say they have a certain number of CVs on file?

Is this a know issue with agencies and is it legal?

    Re: CV Harvesting

As far as i`m aware its just the way agencies work.

When an agency gets ppl for a job they try and get as many ppl through as possible. by having a load of cv`s on file it means that they can give employers a list of ppl a lot quicker than waiting for ppl to apply.

Sad but thats the way some agencies work especially the smaller ones.

Yup, thats about the size of it.

I thought it was fairly standard practice. Specialist agencies may be different and able to trade on their reputation rather than database size.

Immoral maybe but I can't see why it would be illegal.

    Agencies = scum IMHO

I've used a few in the past, never to any success, always at a cost of my time and effort.

With things like Jobserve - agencies can bulk pay to advertise a certain number of positions. Its often worth their while to get the preferential rates for them to submit Phantom Ads just to get the CV's in.

    Re: CV Harvesting

The agency I got my job through take 11% cut from my day rate.... thats obscene!

Also, I saw something in the paper a couple of months back about scammer getting CV's and using it for ID theft... I dont know about your CV but mine has my name, number, address, education and work experiance on it. Not a bad place to start if they want to steal your identity I suppose!

    Re: CV Harvesting

Yeah it's also made me wonder hmm. Also there is no need to have home address on CV. The most needed is, name, number, email address. I took off D.O.B and address after reading that article in the Sunday Times!

I wouldnt/don't put my DOB on my c.v anyway, an employer doesnt need to know how old you are, legally they cant discriminate either.

Although its not that hard to work out your rough age, from when you did you A levels/degree etc.

Any CV's I submit for referrals I remove the DOB from as my employer does not want to know it untill they employ you.

    Re: CV Harvesting

My wife used to manage an agency in London. As such I would never trust an agency as far as I could throw it. Its a sales target driven environment, nuff said......
