How to prevent deletion of folder on external hard drive

    Hi
I have started to use an external hard disc as the main storage on my pc. I share the pc with my partner who is...lets say clumsy, and has previously deleted files/folders. The hard disc contains family photos and videos which I would rather protect from her fat fingers. Is there an easy way to password protect folders from deletion? I have some free software which encrypts and password protects folders/files but they still can be deleted. I am using XP by the way.

    Thanks in advance.

use NTFS permissions and only give her read only access ?

either that or a combination of good backups and strong pimp hand.

If you can deal with the associated risk, http://www.nacs.uci.edu/security/New...orWindows.html is already built into Windows as a means of protecting your files. The biggest downsides are the risk if you don't take the proper backup procedures, and the fact no one else can access the files.
