New Seaside House - Brighton or Bournemouth??

which is the best sea town on the south coast for living??

I Spend most of my time away, and i want a new base for when i am in the UK, but i dont know where. By the sea it is warm and sunny and everyone is happy + low crime, but brighton is 8 million tourists a year which is really not going to be fun, and brighton is lovely, but is it - boring?? plymouth? worthing? Dover?

Born and raised in Plymouth (but living in London now)......It's a nice mix of city and country life.

Large city centre and lots of nightlife but within 30 mins you can be at any one of a number of Devon beaches or deep in the moors.

Car crime is bad but generally crime isn't too bad.

Very different place to either Bournemouth or Brighton though (based on my one-off visits to each of those places)

If you were looking for seaside though it would not actually be in Plymouth but instead one of the surrounding areas like Wembury.....although properties in those areas are quite expensive.

East coast, something like Southwold, picturesque, quiet & close to the Adnams Brewery

Southwold is lovely, and though its touristy its no where near as packed as places such as Brighton, they've also managed to retain an old style seaside town feel to it aswell.

I lived in Brighton for 4 years and the only bad thing about it was commuting to London.

Coming home, though, especially in summer made me breath in deeply and look out at the sea and thank the gods of Network Southeast that they had delivered me safe and sound, home.

Walking out on the breakwater on a stormy day is wonderful, I could stroll to the downs and walk my dog on miles of rolling beauty. The shops are pretty good, if you like that sort of thing and there's a good cinema.

The A23 used to be a nightmare, but has been excellent since it was dug up and turned into a proper road about 15 years ago, so a 50 minutes to Croydon drive is possible. Nearby is Lewes, always a pleasant visit, and there are some wonderful pubs if you head east past Lewes. The Blackboys Inn in Blackboys (Well, duh!) is still superb.

Brighton is a big city without the downside. People call it "London by the Sea" but that's tosh, it's much nicer than that.

It's close to Sizewell too (A is decommisioned, B is running, C is planned...). That said it is a lovely part of the country - I've been around there on holiday a couple of times.

Brighton is good for night life (regardless of your sexual preferences), eating out (regardless of your sexual preferences, ha ha) and shopping. The beach is all rocks though - no sand - and personally I'd prefer somewhere a bit more remote / countryside.

If you move to Brighton, you need to learn to mince
Bournemouth is a nice town.
Dover is nasty. Its asylum seeker city now.
Plymouth.....hmmmm.....bit rough down there. Especially at night. Though, to be fair, some of it is nice.
Worthing is Gods waiting room isnt it?

weymouth is a really nice seaside town from my experience. Nice atmosphere, small local shops and a nice community

I'd pick bournemouth out of your two though, choosing to live in brighton is well.. it's certainly says something about you

I hear Hove is nice (just next to Brighton, but quieter).
