It is right that he have gone, any breach of national security should be taken seriously. In the view that it was just an accident though, perhaps they could have at least given him early retirement or transfer to a less serious department (maybe the government's Data Protection wing, they're already incompitent and accident prone so he wouldn't stick out!)
