Well duuhhhh...
So Blitzen, may I ask you a question :
Do you think that all currently illegal drugs should stay illegal, and if so, why shouldn't alcohol also be made illegal, given that it is responsible for far more deaths, violence, family break ups and a hell of a lot of prison sentences?
Now firstly i'm not saying alcolhol is great and problem free, but mate you've met somebody who's life has been partly detroyed by weed now, at least over the internet. I'm sitting behind my computer typing on this forum to you! 1 in 100 people are schizophrenic, 1 in 4 familys are directly affected by the condition and you are promoting the recreational use of a drug that will increase those numbers!! Here's another one for you 1 in 10 people with schizophrenia commit suicide thats someone's son or daughter, or someone's mother etc. You don't have to already be a mentalist to end up schizophrenic with weed, ok you probably have to smoke a fair bit (i know i did) BUT the fact of the matter is there is no scare mongering, these are facts, and i know this because i'm living proof.
Oh and for the record before i smoked that ****e, i'd won awards within my school for my achievements in science and was heading nicely along doing A-Level Physics, Chem and Maths! If now that i'm 26 and i only have my GCSE's to show in terms of education would you say my life has been ruined?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Sure some people are fine with it, and i may have been a little aggressive in my post, but it winds me up when people say it's harmless and spout poo suchforth etc etc! You obivsouly only listen to the side you want to hear and ignore medical research and statistics cus obvisously the goverment don't want you to have fun or whatever! *******s! What we need is more education on the subject and if it was to be legalised a free NHS test to tell people whether or not they are genetically predisposed to the negative affects! But personally i'd rather it stay illegal!
HEXUS believes no one person has a monopoly on ideas, and that your opinion matters.
The fact that it is illegal or not in my case didn't make a difference, but i'd bet my last penny that more people would try it if it were legal! Oh and sarcasum the lowest form of what-esp in a debate? You seem to have just flammed me because i have a different view to you, what were you trying to achieve? General ignorance of other views?
Format: Quite a lot! I couldn't really say for sure. It's been at least 7 years since i smoked any! i used to use bongs/vapourisers/lungs etc tho! As most people in my area do!

Here's one for you - 8,386 people died as a direct result of drinking alcohol in the UK in 2005.
Did 8000 people die from smoking weed? Did 300 people die? Did 80 people die? Did 6 people die?
Here's another one for you - 114,000 people died in the UK in 2005 as a direct result of smoking... ciggies. Everyone one of these 114,000 people was someone's son, daughter, mother, etc.
Given that over 100,000 people died from smoking ciggies, and noone died from smoking weed, why are you giving us all these 'shocking' facts and figures about weed?
There are drugs that are in a completely different leauge, in terms of deaths caused, and these drugs are legal, and yet you choose to rant on about weed, which is, in comparison, not worth a single seconds worry.
Your explanation?

My grandad was at one time in his life an alcolholic! So don't think i don't know about that either I'm guessing you can read so i suggest you read all of my posts in the thread, throughly, instead of jumping in! When did i advocate alcolhol as an alternative?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Format: But like a lot of people i thought it was harmless, or at least it wouldn't harm me! Then it creeps up on you! And the best thing about physcosis is you're the last one to know you're ill!

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I believe cannabis is generally smoked with tobacco. That being the case how can you differentiate in those numbers between who is smoking cannabis and who is smoking regular run of the mill cigarettes?
Tobacco is bad for you, right? That's the major problem with cigarettes, as far as I'm aware.
You're right twice Splash! Read this http://www.webmd.com/cancer/news/200...c-than-tobacco
So even if it is smoked without tobacco, which sometimes it is, it's still carcinogenic! But researchers warn that even if THC lessens the effects of these cancer-causing ingredients, cannabis smoke remains carcinogenic.

A lot of people don't smoke tobacco with their cannabis, some just smoke grass in a joint, some use other paraphernalia.
Anyway, I suppose you can differentiate because the coroner/doctor has said that the cause of death is smoking tobacco, not cannabis.
If you don't advocate alcohol as an alternative, then do you think it should be banned? After all, if weed should be illegal and it has been proven alcohol is way more toxic and addictive then shouldn't that be banned too?
Of course it shouldn't. Cannabis can be considered 'harmless' IMO, because in contrast to other things that humans do for fun it IS harmless.
I'm sorry if this sounds callous but perhaps before you starting smoking £40+ of weed a week you should have considered the consequences?
Everything in moderation.
I hate to do this, but I'm going to have to dig out my copy of "This Is Cannabis" by Nick Brownlee (ISBN 1-86074-399-4 if you want to pick it up from a library - it's really a very interesting and level headed book, but I'm afraid I don't have a website to link to for you). In the chapter "Health" (page 105, paragraph 2 in my copy).
Make of that what you will, but you can't (in my eyes at least) say that smoking cannabis is harmless. I'm not saying it's more harmful than cigarettes, alcohol or generally available over the counter medication for many ailments, either. However, doctors point out that cannabis smoke contains many of the same toxic chemicals as tobacco smoke, including carcinogens such as tar, carbon monoxide and cyanide. Occasional users fo not generally inhale enough smoke to affect the linings of the trachea and bronchial tubes,. Heavy users, though, often experience the respiratory problems that 20 a day cigarette smokers do, such as chronic bronchitis and the exacerbation of asthma. Small-scale studies of chronic cannabis-user's lungs have revealed abnormal changes in bronchial cells, indicating and increased risk of cancer, and many scientists believe that cannabis' lung cancer risk could prove to be comparable to that of cigarettes
Legalisation is in my eyes a bad move, decriminalisation, education and control a wise one.
