Watch out for connecting flights with long layovers. 9/10 you need a visa to step outside the airport and your ticket won't let you. So its hours of bordem in a boring place.
Baa (owner of Heathrow, Gatwick + Stanstead) was actually created by some environmentalists to stop people flying, i'm sure, because they are so fricken expensive and horrifingly slow.
If your going anywhere in Europe, and booking in advance, look at Cityjet an (illegal in EU law?) state subsidised subsidurary of AirFrance, they are just terrific, and cheap.
