    Where to go on holiday?

Me and my lass want to go on holiday at the start of September (cheaper?) but not sure where! I've finally got a passport now (last year we went to Dublin using my driving licence) so where's good? Looking at spending about £400 each for everything (including spending money). So ideally about £200-250 for the flight, hotel and transportation.

    Suggestions?

Edit: Also do you recommend leaving it until last minute to get a cheap deal that way?

I don't think leaving it to the last minute is perhaps the best option this year, when I was looking at holidays this summer it just got more expensive not less, but maybe it will change by the autumn. Check out Expedia and Trip Advisor for ideas. How about somewhere like Barcelona or Madrid? How long are you wanting to go for?

Wanting to go for a week. I've looked at expedia and it does look good but I'm still not sure where I want to go.. I'll give trip advisor a go though and will look at those places, cheers.

Prague is pretty affordable for a week, or you could try somewhere outside the E.U. Like Turkey if you want better value for your pound.

What's there to do in Prague/Turkey apart from sun bathe?

Re: Where to go on holiday?

For a budget like that, scour the papers, especially the Metro if you can find it, there are often cheap breaks for around £2-300 per person for a week in the sun. It really depends what you want to do. For a break to Europe to chill on a beach, might be worth popping into a travel agent - bear in mind the later you go, the cheaper it'll be and the quieter (schools go back in september of course). For something a bit more "cultural" like going to Paris or Prague you're best off booking into a hostel.

Check out the paris thread, £50 return fare on the Eurostar which leaves you lots of money - £400 combined for the week's accomodation (good stuff). There is a crapload to do in Paris and it's got the added "romance" factor. It's not a beach holiday so be warned, but it's glorious in the sun when it's not tourist season and you could always spend a day in rural france as the train tickets are a lot cheaper than Los Britainos.

I wouldn't leave it until the last minute, the idea with that is that sometimes there are quick deals. Of course what happens more often is that there aren't any deals and you end up forking out full price or an added premium for later booking.

Granted a lot of holiday spots in Turkey are dedicated to tourists, but what about somewhere like Istanbul? Plenty of sights, and similarly if you search for things to do in Prague there are plenty of museums, cathedrals and theatres.... It just depends what kind of holiday you are looking for

I went to Prague a few years back in December, was about -6 C

It's alright actually, a very small city but enough to keep you occupied for 3-4 days. Probably not what you're looking for though

Re: Where to go on holiday?

Well ideally we'd like to go somewhere hot but somewhere with lots of stuff to do. Musuems and stuff like that is all good really. Are there any decent places with a good old beach with good weather and a decent city/town centre + other attractions?

Re: Where to go on holiday?

I would suggest Barcelona then. There are beaches and so many sights, however, it might end up slightly over your budget for a week though. I'm sure you will be able to find a deal somewhere!

Re: Where to go on holiday?

    Stay in the UK.

Seriously. Keep the pound here, and don't use a plane.

May I suggest a week in deepest Herefordshire, or maybe South Pembrokshire or Camarthanshire? Lots of good food and nice walking
    Local beers are ace too.

Nah we DEFINETLY want to go abroad. If this means we have to pay more for transport, so be it... we've finally got the oportunity to (we're both students and both have 2 jobs) so we want to whilst we can.
