Phone question!

Ok i have a T610 on O2 Contract.

Occasionaly it seems to connect like someones calling it for about 10 seconds and the phone icon comes on at the top and i always wack the end call button.

So why is it connecting? Is O2 trying to steal my pictures? contacts? upgrade my firmware? WHAT!!! its really >>>>>>> ME OFF!!!!

Does it ring? Someone prank-calling you? Someone starting to call you then deciding not to at the last minute?

No it doesnt ring it just connects for about 10 seconds then disconnects or i press end call.... could be GPRS but i don't see why it would need to connect.

Yeah GPRS does ping from time to time, like the standard phone networks.

GPRS does not 'ping' by opening a connection - a gprs connection has to be initiated by some user event or automatic scheduled download. Nothing network-side would initiate a gprs connection. Data relevant to holding a network or attaching to a gprs service would not be shown up as connections on the phone.

The T6x0 family doesn't show a phone icon for gprs connections anyway, using a globe icon instead. Make sure you don't have any java applications installed or email scheduled that may be initiating a CSD call. Does it show you a number for the call?

GPRS is always on. They charge you by the traffic you download. So it could be that

GPRS is always attached, unless you switch it off or alter your settings to an invalid access point, which is why on the SE family you see a triangle above the network bars when you have gprs attached. This is different from an actual connection or data session, where you actually transfer data with the network, which is represented by a globe icon on the SE family. After no data transfer for x number of seconds, usually 120, the connection or session ends but you remain 'attached'. Similar to a phone being connected to a network but not connected to a call. There is no (used) way of the network initiating a GPRS session with the phone, just like there's no (usual) way of an ISP initiating an internet connection over your dialup modem.

maybe you are hitting the buttons on the side? causing you to connect perhaps? i havent had any strange things going on with me t610 on o2...

I assume you are referring to the little green phone icon that appears at the top of the screen? I have also got a T610 on O2 and I have not noticed this problem. Ten seconds is quite a long time. Easily enough time for it to ring. It is too long for someone to be starting to call then changing their mind before it rings, or a prank (10p), IMO. That green icon only appears when a call is actually in progress (on mine anyway). When someone is ringing it comes up with a big box containing their name and number.

As mentioned before the T610 displays the globe icon when you are using GPRS to access WAP. It does display the little green phone symbol if you are using the old GSM way to access WAP, i.e. as a phone call where you are charged by the minute. Look under Connectivity, WAP Options, WAP Profile to see which you are using.

Have you tried listening or talking down the phone when it happens? Have you seen the green phone icon appear when the phone is in your hand, i.e. you are not pressing any buttons? I would guess that you are ringing someone accidentally while it is in your pocket, possibly 999/112 because these work even when the keys are locked.

The phone was on my desk, just connected, no info on screen like it does with normal calls and yes i have tried shouting to see if anyones there....

Its confusing me so much....

My t610 will tell me i have so many missed calls and when i go to see what they are they dont appear! Also my voice mail rings me constantly even though i have no new messages! Im on vodafone btw.
