I, or any of my alter egos are not available in that directory. STEALTH.
Hey all,
Well I couldn't see this posted anywhere so I thought I'd post it. Have a read of this:

As I understand it, 118800 is buying up directories of mobile phone numbers. They will then charge you £1 for retrieving a number.
This is something I really don't want to be a part of and so I am opting out:

Any thoughts?

If you read the site, nobody can buy your actual number. They request a search for you, and then YOU are sent THEIR number and a message saying they want to contact you, or if its done over the phone 118800 ring you and ask if you want to be connected to the person.
Same here, no code arrived no matter how many times I went through the ex-directory process.

Oh damn.
Mods can you please combine or remove?
Edit: Thanks to the powers that be!

I have checked to see if my name shows up with a search but nothing so far. When it does I will request removal. I don't intend to give them my details prior to that happening.
Humans, the only animal stupid enough to pay to live on the planet Earth.
The ex-directory worked for me, took about 5 minutes?
Don't think they have my current mobile number but I think they have got one of my old ones.
Where does the £1 charge go to?
It surprises me that you lot are worried about this. for a start they only have 15 million numbers registered, there are about 300million numbers registered, mobile numbers change at the rate of about 200,000 a week.
None of the network operators are sharing their customer data even under threat of legal action from 118800.
Opting out is 'boosting' their numbers of mobiles listed, best not to even do that.
The likelyhood is the service won't take off or will be used by people that don't know what they are doing.
But it won't be used for Spam calls because of the cost, It won't give you back a mobile number it will connect you to the mobile number etc.
These stories are benefiting 118800 not the individual and i'm shocked that viral nature of all these e-mails around it 'scaring' people into opting out.

Exactly, i don't understand why people are kicking up such a fuss over this service and if they have my number listed ill probably leave it there. Nobody gets hold of your number and you get to decide whether to take the call or not, i hardly see this service as something to panic about or get angry at.
I wanted out of it and it worked straight away. Maybe lots of people are doing this out of paranoia and their servers can't cope.
I am naturally paranoid and don't trust statements like 'we'll never sell your number' - a lot of companies say that and still you get phone calls from companies that you've never been in touch with. So, no: I don't trust them...
Also: they're making money with my number and all I get is the possibility for someone to get in touch with me. I know the people I want to be in touch with, I don't see any value-add for me here. So, out I go!
