Enigma codebreakers of Bletchley to be honoured
Wow, er...how cool is that? A badge...Surviving codebreakers from the wartime Bletchley Park cypher school in Buckinghamshire are to be honoured with a commemorative badge.

At least they are finally getting some recognition.
badge should be medal though.
Indeed it should!! I mean they couldn't even speak about their work until recently and had no recognition for what was an extremely important part in defending the country! They even invented the first 'proper' computer for which, again, they got no credit. IMO they deserve one heck of a lot more than a badge!
Well we're doing it our way at hexus... with the 3rd (?! I think) Annual Bletchley Park meet
http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-social...er-2009-a.html
Each visitor fee goes towards the upkeep of the park so we encourage as many people to come along too.
I'm glad they got recognition... without those guys so much could have been so different.
Some lottery funding for a start...
We should start a petition or something... get all the IT depts in the country to do some fundraising... or help this lass out http://savingbletchleypark.org/

This is a cracking idea and the day at bletchley park is a damn good one as well. All the volunteers there that show you around the place ooze enthusiasm and it makes it such a good day out.
If you're not doing anything that weekend, I seriously suggest you get down, meet some hexites and have a good day learning about the past. Another good part is the computer section, which is full of hardware pr0n and should keep you all happy as well.
For anyone interested in this sort of thing I read a great book - The Code Book by Simon Singh. It's not just about the Enigma code but a big chunk of it is. It explains how the code was broken, how the Bombes etc were built and lots of background/history on the subject.
It will indeed be our third annual pilgramage to BP
I think my brother may be tempted to come down to this. I have a bunch of stuff i want to donate to the computer and cinematography museums.
As yes, it is indeed a good book, as are his others.
