This is really randombut, today i walked into the kitchen in semi darkness and got something out of the fridge.
No problem. I could see because the light came on.
I then went to get something out the freezer but had to go and turn the light on becausce i couldn't see.
So why is there a light in the fridge but no light in the freezer?
Light bulbs create some heat & risk warming up the freezer slightly? You can get very efficient light bulbs these days, but maybe 20 years ago it was uneconomical to put in a hefty, heavy wattage light bulb in & through habit/keeping costs down manufacturers havnt bothered since? Be my guess.
Well, with my fridge freezer, the fridge has glass shelves so the light lights up the whole fridge. In the freezer though, there are white plastic drawers so they light would only light up the first drawer
You would need to put lights in all drawers which isn't very economical so they leave them out. That's my theory.
I guess if there is water condensed / ice on the bulb it would crack when it lits up.

Chest freezers have a light in them cause they usually don't have drawers, so my theory still stands.

need to have some form of LED lighting in the door perhaps?
The thing is with the freezer you tend to pull a drawer out, with the fridge you reach in, as such you need some light in the fridge to stop the shadow.
However the case of the fat midnight snackers needing nourishment is overlooked imho.
