Halp with credit card pl0x
So to set the scene:
I ordered an ITX mobo before the LAN from Eclipse Computers, however i then realised that i may need to use my card at some point over the weekend, so i cancelled the order, and received the following email (i wanted written confirmation of cancellation):

And i thought everything was done and dusted, however a couple of days later (today in fact) Eclipse have charged my card £81.02, odd, but no worry i'll just email them, then i noticed that the £81.02 had sent me over my credit limit by £3.72, so does this mean that i am liable to pay the £12 exceeded credit limit fee?
I'm with Capital One if it makes any difference (i can't get through on the phone, and my account now has limited functionality [they've removed the web messaging bit...] because i'm over limit )
So what i'm asking is, when Eclipse have refunded the amount that i am owed, and that they emailed me saying that they wouldn't take, am i still liable to pay the £12 fee? And will something like this affect my credit rating and all of that bollocks?
Re: Halp with credit card pl0x
the sale was put through but refunds always take longer to go through the system unfortunately it's one of those thing unfortunatly

It was all ok up to this point. I work for a large credit card firm and these have quite a reputation. I know we would have no problem refunding you the £12 if previously you've been a good customer, however I feel Capital One may be a bit more resistant, though they still should fold. Either way though its no hang-able offence and it wont affect your credit rating to any meaningful degree (will be off the record in 6 months I believe).
Re: Halp with credit card pl0x
Good advice fom [DW]cougho!
When the refund is processed, write to Capital one and explain the situation, and they should refund you - it is usually a 'warning shot' the first time.
Re: Halp with credit card pl0x
Thanks for the advice guys :),
it's a bit stupid locking accounts down, by locking down i mean removing the ability to send a secure message, all it gives me is a phone number, i call it to be answered with "The department you are calling is currently closed", they have no publicised email addresses to contact.
And the only reason i'm with capital one is because noone else will touch me. Capital one is my stepping stone (i'm on the stupid 34% APR one), until someone else will accept me, i'm holding back applying constantly and for loads, so that it isn't held against me.
Because a stable address with stable employment isn't enough for most people...
However... If i was a student just moved into halls with no income except student load, i could get one instantly... WTF?
Re: Halp with credit card pl0x
Have you looked at Egg? They were happy to give me one with a low interest rate that I can load money on in advance if needed
Re: Halp with credit card pl0x
pay the charge even if it IS levied and THEN argue it... don't lose your credit rating.

Same situation here, everybody's being a right pain in the arse.
I didn't realise there was a fee, I've gone over my credit limit a few times I think but was surprised to find no warnings/charges/anything at all.
Admittedly, I always paid a load back again a day or two later by debit card, so it was never over the limit by the time it came to be paid, but I'm very surprised now that I never had any problems. Won't be doing that again!
Still, it's their fault for giving me such a stupid limit, but there you go :)

Exactly what I would have said :)
Re: Halp with credit card pl0x
How do you go over your credit limit? My card just gets rejected straight out even if it over by like £1.

No idea, I didn't really notice the first time round, it was maybe a tenner or so?
EDIT: Whoa! I just logged into my account to see how close I was, given this thread, and they've tripled my limit... my eyes have nearly fallen out of my head! Party-time!

They shouldn't be allowed to do that without you requesting it. It's little wonder people get into trouble so easily, all falling for the carrot :angst:

Ironically, I was going to phone them today or tomorrow to request it, but thought it would be rejected out of hand.

They were the first company that i tried, as having 2 other egg cards under this roof i thought it would be a safe bet, but apparently not...

That's the thing, i tried to pay the overlimit amount off yesterday, when i spotted it, with a debit card, but i can't, as it asks you to list all of the numbers in your address bar the postcode, but my address doesn't have ANY numbers in it... So it got rejected.
So do i get charged now for the overlimit, or at the end of the statement period? As the statement period is the 11th of dec.
Or can i just go to my direct debit on my nationwide account and just pay in full early?
Re: Halp with credit card pl0x
And so it continues, It is now showing up as credited from Eclipse
http://www.myalbumbank.com/albums/us...pture%7E13.PNG
however my account summary still shows:
http://www.myalbumbank.com/albums/us...pture%7E14.PNG
Or is it just a case of waiting for the payment to clear or something?
I have to say, Eclipse have been quick sorting it, so credit where credit is due (;)), but they could be a little more pro-active in-terms of contact, i've only had one email from them (the one quoted earlier) and that is it, despite other contact from myself.
