    may sound silly...

but I'm trying to set up an account with scan. I dont have a home telephone but it is a 'required field' for some reason..I dont want to put a friend's number and not my works number either..should I just put any old random number in? How important is it considering I'm going to put my mobile anyway?
    Thanks.

Just put your mobile number down, so long as they have some way to contact you as well as email thats all that matters

    Re: may sound silly...

dont think you got me...it's a 'required field' and wont let me continue until I put a home phone number in the box, therefore I cannot register, surely there must be an option for people who dont have phones in their house? with the advent of mobiles some people just dont need them.

I think he's suggesting putting your mobile number in the home phone required field.

    Re: may sound silly...

The field is probably rejecting numbers that start 07.

Sipgate will give you a free landline-style voip number - you only need to pay for calls out

    Re: may sound silly...

thanks for the advice cookie but I just went ahead and put my works number to save the hassle...weird that scan demand a home phone number in this day and age, seems a little archaic, maybe its a security thing? who knows.

    Re: may sound silly...

I know some credit cards can be identified by their landline number, at least partly.

But yeah, loads of people I know don't have a landline these days. It's not exactly surprising given the prevalence of wireless comms, but I don't like it because it effectively forces everyone else to pay a fortune to ring you.

    Re: may sound silly...

hmm, it's possible I guess but still seems a bit extreme to have it as a required field?
My childhood consisted of no home phone whatsoever...to quote my dad "If it's that important they'll come round and knock the bloody door!!!"

    Re: may sound silly...

    Ok..this is even weirder now..
I registered an account at scan...all fine and dandy. Went to log in yesterday and couldn't. My details were right, my mother's maiden name was right, my password was right. Did the 'password reset' thing...got the email, followed link, reset password to something different, waited until today (let the site resync or whatever) cant log in??? Looked on scan for some kind of help request type thing but all I can find are request forms starting with 'invoice number'.
Sooo, what do I do? Anybody know where and who can sort out my login woes? I've got over £1000 waiting to be spent on yummy hardware.

    Re: may sound silly...

Try the Scan forum on here; they're considerably more likely to sort it out than us.
