Accepted a job abroad. Anyone fancy an 8-core Mac Pro?

Hi all, Once again I'm looking to my fellow Hexites for advice.

This is a precursor to what may be a rather larger 'clear out' of my tech as I will be away from home for initially a period of 2-years and possibly much longer.

I purchased my 8-core Mac Pro in December 2008. Apart from the stock boot HDD I've installed 3x Samsung Spinpoint 1TB drives, and it has a second Superdrive salvaged from my dead G5.

Model details may be found here.

The single model sold for $2,799, and included two 2.8 GHz, quad-core Intel Xeon 5400 processors (for a total of 8 cores), 2 GB of RAM, a 320 GB hard disk, a SuperDrive, and an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT with 256MB of VRAM
It of course costs more in the UK and in Singapore than the UK; I ended up paying closer to £2,000 for the machine. How much do you think it's worth? Based on the responses of fellow Hexites I will decide whether to post this to the FS section.

Anyone thinks I should just keep it, or may be take it with me / have it shipped across?

    Cheers, M.

P.S. @Mods: I hope I'm not stepping on any toes as usual; if you feel this belongs elsewhere do what you feel is best.

Lemmie know if you clear out some of your lab goodies

(I feel like such a vulcher circling the caucus with glee).

Enjoy your job! Where you off too if you don't mind the asking.

Which goodies? I've got a color-LCD 2-port 100 MHz 1GS/s Tektronix Osc scope as well (purchased Sept 2008, got calibration docs etc. Got it in London from Farnell for around £1,300) although I think I'll hang on to my Fluke DMM for now.

I've got 3-weeks to sort all of this out, so if anyone has a fancy for odd bits n' bobs give me a shout

I would probably sell the computer unless you want to be lugging a whole lot of stuff abroad. You could always get another computer in Kuwait. TBH,the only reason to keep the computer is if you cannot afford to get a new one this year.

    Also,congrats on your job!!

    Thanks CTF!

Buying another computer when I get back will not be a problem at all. Since I would be spending much of my time at work, even if I did take the MP across, it probably wouldn't get used much any ways. Hopefully I'll be able to find an interested party

    Thanks mate

It's not a MBP, but a Mac Pro. I do also have an older MacBook Pro 15" that I'll be listing. It's got a near dead battery - but apart from that it's running perfectly.

Congrats on the job mate! I will be looking closely at your for sale thread when it appears...

In other news I have persuaded the wife to buy me a 149 as a baby/anniversary present. I am not sure why I get a present but I won't say no!
