Question Cheap printer with low running costs

Need a cheap printer/multifunction device with low running costs. Can't afford the initial cost of a laser, so inkjet it'll have to be. Somewhere around the £50 mark with refils that don't cost the earth. Won't be using it for photo's so average print quality is ok.

    Suggestions?

Re: Cheap printer with low running costs

I assume you are after a colour printer as you should be able to get a black and white laser for about £50. I paid that for my Samsung ML-1210 around 5 years ago and it's still going strong. Once the original toner was done I bought replacement toner powder on Ebay for about £7 from memory and that is still running great. I suppose if the multifunction bit is essential this could rule this option out too.

If you can manage with black and white I would strongly recommend a laser for very cheap, fast printing. I just have an Epson for colour - very rarely used - just for printing DVDs/CDs and maps.

We've always used HP printers at work as they're pretty reliable, refils can get a bit pricey but easily avoided by going for non-genuines.

Re: Cheap printer with low running costs

I've used HP Printers a lot and in my experience non-genuine refills are always lower quality.

Always. And I have tried several different suppliers.

Which is a bit sad cos I'd really like to pay less.

The officejet pro 8500 is available for around £190+VAT with a £50 cashback. It may be over budget but the running costs are supposed to be less than a laser. I've got one and it's simply brilliant.

Re: Cheap printer with low running costs

If you are prepared to go and pick one up..then have a look on ebay for a "proper" colour laser printer - a HP Laserjet or something.

A couple of months ago I got a HP Laserjet 4600 with 70% left on all 3 toner cartriges, plus 69% on the transfer unit - that will last a /very/ long time and far surpasses the quality of any consumer level laser printer. Even came with 2 paper trays. It cost me £80 (had to collect it but was only a 30min drive), absolute bargain.

The only problem is you need a bit of space for it as its a huge beast of a printer, but amazing value for money, and there are plenty on ebay if you look around
