The iPad wont tether to iPhone ... according to Seth Weintraub on 9to5Mac.

In copies of emails from Swedish iPhone user Jezper Söderlund from Sweden & a reply from Steve Jobs, Apple Overlord the answer is quite succinct.

I'll keep it short.

I'm Jezper from Sweden, a long time Apple fan, currently about to replace the very last computer at home with a brand spanking new iMac i7. I'm also awaiting the release of the iPad. However, I have one question:

Will the wifi-only version somehow support tethering thru my iPhone?

Two devices, based on the same OS, with already built-in technology to share one data plan suggests a secondary contract could possibly be redundant.

From the look of your keynote, where the iPad sits well between my MacBook Pro and my iPhone, I was hoping the three of them could interact as seamless as possible.

...and yes, they have proof it was indeed the Steve Jobs.

What does it mean to potential buyers? Well those hoping to to buy the WiFi iPad at reduced cost won't be able to tether it to their iPhone for 3G iterweb access.

It also means two costly internet data plans & not being able to share a connection between (what should rightly be compatible) devices. Shame really, but not unexpected going on Apples practices in the past.

Still, how long before some Ninja HaXor circumvents it ....

It's apple's product, they can do what they like. It's a case of screw the end user. Those that care enough about this feature will look else where into something else. The Apple fan boys will buy this regardless anyway.
