Unhappy I may ride without Insurance. Rant

well after my bike insurance renewed without informing me i am pretty mad. i moved 10 months ago and informed them via phone about 8 months ago. I only knew that they had renewed because of my credit card statement.. i rang them today, they have cancelled minus £30. A £30 cancellation fee is a lot of money to me and there is no way for me to get this back now. Unless im covered by a 28 day right to cancel, (it's within 28 days) but i don't know about renewal.

so next time i may ride / drive without insurance. it's all one big scam anyway! multi billion £ scam industry!! Lets be honest, the lowest paid have pretty much been priced out of owning transport these days!

Heck, dispute the initial charge. You didn't authorise it.

Then if they ask for a refund on the money they refunded you, give it to them, minus a £30 administration fee

Was there anything in your previous insurance that said it would be automatically renewed ? I know my insurance has bit that says unless I inform them my insurance will aromatically renew. If that was in your insurance then you may find you can not reclaim the £30.

You just don't get how these things work kalniel....

    It's
    -£20 administration fee
-£5 postage costs and labour to do so
    -£1 postage materials
-£x for interest at the rate of a short term loan (like that payday one that is 2000-20000%APR)
    -£37 for the late repayment
-£20 for the letter you send them advising them of imminent letter telling them they owe you money

i can't agree more to that. Bingo.

Insurance is legalised extortion but I'm sorry; if you don't have it stay off the road.

Even more stupid, posting it on a public forum/the Internet.

If you can't afford insurance, then you shouldnt be allowed on the road.

    END OF.

Usually in the case of insurance renewal you'll get a letter stating your upcoming policy price, unless you say otherwise they will assume you want to continue your policy with them.
You sure you didn't receive such a letter?

Thing is, if you don't have insurance, and end up causing an accident, that leaves the other person seriously screwed sometimes... and they've certainly done nothing wrong.

It can cause a massive amount of harm to people.

The automatic renewal, as per the T&C's, was there for you to see i can guarantee it.
If you can't be bothered to look then it's your fault.

Mine also auto renews, but i don't do contracts without knowing what they say...

The lowest paid are often priced out because of the people on the road with no insurance. Ride with no insurance and you're just making the entire situation a lot worse. Back in 2004 the BBC quoted someone saying it added about £30 more onto everyone's premiums, so i'd guess it would be a lot more now.

As a biker you should know better, and it's a shame you would even joke about riding without insurance. Us bikers are the most vulnerable people on the road. Having had the heartache of having my best mate killed in a bike RTA, I can not begin to tell you how important insurance is for everyone.

If you can't afford insurance, stay off the road. Even though it might be expensive in some cases, It's there for everyone's benefit.
