I know I was pretty disappointed in the ending as well. I was really hoping it would explain the island .

There were so many things wrong with the final episode:

    - as someone mentioned, Ben stuck under a log too heavy to lift, then suddenly getting out
    - Jack in the "heart" of the island, then the next scene lying on a rock on the surface
    - Kate suddenly changing her clothes in the final scene

There were others that I can't remember just now.

Not worth getting up at 5am for.

    Sky+ ftw

I thought that Jack was going to turn into smokey, MiB was pushed into the cave & turned into it, his body then found in the same spot as Jack appeared. The water was doing something funky to Desmond so I thought Jack was going to turn into it then Hurley would be the new Jacob & the cycle starts again, after all why did MiB turn into it in the first place & why was such a big deal made of not going into the cave by Jacob/MiB's 'mother' ? Guess I was wrong though!

My guess is that it was a huge pocket of electromagnetic activity, so only Desmond could go in. When he took out the stone, it released the energy or something. Really stupid and quite cringe worthy any way.

That just shows how little Lost actually explains.

Why can't Jacob and MiB harm each other?
Why does the light stop MiB from leaving the island?
Why does touching the light turn MiB into smoke monster?
Why can't anybody leave the island except by submarine (and apparently, plane)?

There's so many things you have to just accept, which is annoying.

Re: Lost - the finale *spoilers*

None of that has convinced me that this finale has been anything other than the writers picking up whatever loose ends that they could find through the, presumable, drunken haze that they were sitting in and tieing them all together in a big, dumb knot. And then looking smug, pretending that that was what they had planned all along!

me too tbh - yes it leaves so much untold..and that is so frustrating, but then again that is what we have come to expect from modern TV shows and films isn't it? So many of them now finish like this - leaving us with more questions than answers.

Sadly it has become the fashion.

The thing with lost is that the show itself was great fun to watch - full of questions every episode and a gazillion track backwards and forwards..it would lead you to think one thing and then completely change your opinion 10 times an episode, before finishing with one huge cliffhanger that left you wanting more. At least it did for me.

Very clever show, disappointing ending as expected these days but still a great show - can't wait to find time to watch it again now and be able to notice all the clues from the first seasons that link in to the end!

Re: Lost - the finale *spoilers*

A story has a begining, a middle and an ending.

Lost has a start, some stuff that happened and an almost unrelated tieing up process.

It's not good writing or fashion, it's just a sad product of the modern (and more accurately US) TV industry.

That's true actually, it's not really "good writing", but I think the point here is that it doesn't really matter.

It was good entertainment, which is after all what TV is about

I'd debate that. I didn't enjoy watching most of it, where it wasn't stinging out minor 'plot' elements, it was teasing the viewer with never to be revealed mysteries. The only reason I (and presumably a lot of others) kept watching was the ever present hope that the 'story' would eventually all come in to focus. But that never happened

I guess they succeeded in that I watched the whole thing but rarely was I ever entertained by it.

To be fair, they did explain a fair amount... Dharma was almost totally explained, which was a good 4/5 season plot arc.

But then again, this summarises things: http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1936291
