    Apple Bigger Than Microsoft

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/10168684.stm

Apple has pushed past arch-rival Microsoft to become the world's biggest technology company.

Changes in the share price values of the two in Wednesday's choppy trading left the total value of Apple at $222bn (£154bn).

Microsoft is now valued by investors at $219bn.

However, Microsoft still enjoys higher profits than Apple. Its most recent annual net profit was $14.6bn (£10bn), compared with $5.7bn for Apple.
    We are all doomed.

    Re: Apple Bigger Than Microsoft

I think a little part of me just died.

I'm trying my best to stem the tide! I forbade my sister from buying an iPhone, I have 5 copies of Windows 7 and an Xbox 360. I can't fight the war alone! I dont even like Microsoft that much, but I have a fervent dislike for Apple - for no particular reason, just pure irrational hatred -. Surely Google will be the world's largest tech firm before too long though!

At the time that Apple nearly went bust, wasnt it MS that bought the shares noone wanted to keep it going?

    Re: Apple Bigger Than Microsoft

Apple and MS only really compete directly in a few markets though - Apple has essentially become a gadget manufacturer rather than a PC company (and even then MS don't really 'compete' in this arena as they don't make PCs!).

MS want to thou, after the shake up.

Apparently a large number of a small personal investors, which is odd considering they traditionally went for good dividend paying shares, rather than growth stocks. I predict some people will get their fingers very burnt when jobs drops dead.
