Last week I asked for lots of reviewers.. I got them very fast.

I posted the "secret" game out..

they all got it.. (struggled to install it) and then had to play for 3 hours minimum

Play testers were banned from reading that second thread until they'd played lots of it...

They are TOTALLY different people, none of them similar, and it's a breath of internet fresh air to see such non-influenced reviews.

I have 100% free time these days....yet this is the third free game I have missed in 2 weeks! Takes real skill to be that oblivious to free stuff around you!

I did enjoy reading the reviews though, seem like a good idea Zak & I look forwarding to seeing (participating? ) this in the future!

Love the idea Zak - do think there'll be any more of these? Might it be worth starting a database of interested reviewers, which you can then pick from randomly when these things get up rather than just a first come-first served deal? I'd definitely be interested in registering...

it's a good idea but when I do these I need people active, that moment in time,

If I have a database of them, they might be away, on holiday, snowed in with work etc...

so I'm gonna see if it's possible to do again.. and then do it in a similar vein.

Effectively, gaming forum will get it again if it happens.

Compromise would be to post a thread up, give people 24 hours to register interest and then pick 20 names out of a hat.

Eradicates the "first come served" element whilst ensuring that people are actually available and willing to do it that week.

Sounds like a sensible idea to me - you get the immediacy and open the door to more people.

I think this was a great idea Zak, and I hope there's many more where it came from!

One thing that could perhaps improve the set up is if you do a sort of collated summary so that people can (at a glance) see what the major sticklers and major sellings points are that everyone agrees on. Most people, for instance, seem to agree that the installer was bum, but the graphics were nice. I enjoyed reading through everyone's experiences, but sometimes you just want to see "ah ok, this was good, this was terrible". Since you got the guys to rate out of 10, perhaps also an average score? (apologies if I missed anything like this already!)

Also, if this was to be done in the future, how open would the application process be? Personally I think this should be something that is open for all, but with a few caveats - a bit like Scan's deal with Hexus. You need to strike a balance between letting everyone get their chance at the limelight whilst rewarding people who contribute to Hexus on a regular basis - i.e. if you're going to draw names out of a hat, I think that in this instance it's not entirely fair if someone who's just joined the forum gets to have a go.

Obviously your call, but just my two penneth-worth.
