    A bit of a Rant @ Sony

    Dear Sony

Please please please make it easier to find drivers on your site, I've just spent a good hour trying to find drivers for a Sony Digital voice recorder. First I thought hazaar I've found them on the US site but no it said product not available in this territory so then I spent even longer trawling the Europe site looking for the driver. Then I found it and after installing it turns out that its 32bit only arrgh. Dell, HP and all the others seem to be able to get all theirs sites fairly uniform between territories but for each of yours its completely different between sites which doesn't help with making things easier. Its not rocket science guys

Tell me about it mate, I had the same issue earlier this year with two of their products. One was a TouchScreen PC we'd sold at work that I had to spend hours and hours on installing it all differently because the customer didn't want Windows 7 Home Premium.

Then after that a Sony Laptop which they only make 32 bit drivers for and I could only used a Sony Driver for the GeForce 8400 GPU thats on the Laptop.

I have vowed never to buy a Sony product ever again.

Dont Laugh but when I worked @ Sony Computer Entertainment we ended up having to pay to send Vaios back for repair with a credit card as the Vaio support dept couldn't handle an invoice. Then I had to go through the whole rigmarole of explaining to them that yes we had downgraded to XP. Then I had some monkey asking where we got the licence from, I said we used our VLK and he didnt have a clue what one was and accused us of using a dodgy copy FFS!

We had to refuse warranty on laptops that didn't have the factory installed operating system on them if people brought them into store to send away for repair. Caused many a hard conversation that did.

Sony isn't really that good for people who knows about computers. They are also good for girls and women as the look pretty good. Quality not sure though.

    Totally not true.

Sony are a stupid company, they are also the only blue chip firm to send scary legalise letters to me, but that was a former lifetime.

Something like the P series vaio is unique, innovative, and for £500 with 3G built in, quite affordable.

The quality of that P series construction is second to none, but it came pre-loaded with so much junk crap it was un-usable.

The FX I bought as a desktop replacement was good value, has an astonishing screen for a laptop, but very cheap plastic feel.

The problem sony have is that they are a very big firm, with almost no cohesion.

    QFT

The Z series are lovely laptops very light, fast and reasonably well built (the newer ones even more so) but Sony seem to only think that end consumers will buy these and don't have a support service geared up to cater for corporate customers

their support for ma and pa types, from Sony Style direct is actually very good, they took someone I know through the process of setting up a homegroup between their two new vaio Z's.

In my mind that is above and beyond what you expect an PC supplier to do, as that is the knowledge they should learn or pay for.
