    Hello from Osaka!

    Hey guys (and gals)!

I've been in Osaka for almost a week now and this is a really hot and humid time out here.

I'm keeping a blog but it only gets updated when I get time online at an internet cafe.

    URL is sleepyinjapan.wordpress.com

    Comments and critisms most welcome.

Kind of missing my daily hexus fix/read but there are plenty more interesting things going on out here!

Anyhow my typing/posting may get weird...their keyboards are pretty crazy with more buttons that I have no idea what they do. Also the placement is different as well...I'll try and grab a photo for you if you are that interested.

However I can now easily do this: ふくおか

No idea what I wrote but one of the buttons changes the letters to kanji/hiragana/katakana.

How dare you! My grandmother was a saint!!!

I'll be following your blog with interest. I don't envy you the heat or humidity but Japan is a place I would like to visit, one day. Probably in the Autumn or Spring though (I'm not good with heat!)

I've seen one of them circling an offshore platform in Nigeria. Was pretty impressive!

Nice! I keep going to dive spots around the world where they sometimes show up - but no luck so far.

I remember having to use one at the Ryokan last year when the wireless went down. I think I accidentally hit the key to change to hiragana and couldn't change it back!

No idea if it means anything, but I'll be pleased if that's right as I didn't look it up and I'm going from crappy self tutoring of the language!

    Re: Hello from Osaka!

Fukuoka would be the southwestern area of Japan (one I wanted to visit but missed). Though like most places, you are more likely to see it in Kanji (福岡). Enjoy your stay, I would say that I envy you, but like Pollaxe, I am not good with hot let alone hot and humid, so I'll save the envy for later

I've only been here a week and trying to set everything up, get information, find a job etc. more than sight seeing. Thanks for the heads up though; I'll be sure to visit there soon.

EDIT: Updated with 3 new entries

    Re: Hello from Osaka!

Rastaman, I just popped on to explain.

I'm trying to write blog entries on my laptop for free then transfer the words to wordpress once I get net time. The bit that bites me are the pictures!!!

It's not dead, I'm just struggling to find time to squeeze it all in the 30 minutes I have at the internet cafe. Alot to do in those 30 minutes.

Osaka is pretty great and I took a random trip to Umeda and to a twin skyscraper place. That was awesome but they also have the Michael Jackson Neverland exhibit there AND had an evening musical thing too. So yesterday was pretty great. That'll get written up soon.

Time's up at the internet cafe (I don't want to spend loads of time and money indoors).

I'll update the blog hopefully tomorrow but I do have studying to do (signed up to a Japanese language course).

    Re: Hello from Osaka!

Oh, I was demanding a full explanation! Just more curiosity than anything. Japan is, well it is somewhere that I need to come over to, and do alot of things! So its nice to see someone elses take on things.

Good luck with the course, I'm sure you'll be fluent in no time. A friend of mine spent a few years living out there not long ago, and apparently the best advice he could give, was just get out there, do your day to day tasks as normal, and you pick it up fairly quickly.
