    Work and week schedule's, proof?

Thought i would ask this, Before i do though a quick run down of why. Work has a cut of date, I'm not 100% sure when this cut of date is, other than the fact it's about half way in the month, They cannot give an exact date due to it changing slightly each month (managers word not mine) So there has been a few months that my money has been messed up and taken months to be sorted out. Other people have had the same problem aswell.

So i've been wondering, would work if i asked have to provide a printed out weekly schedule of the hours i've worked? I know the hour's i work, i could write it down but if i asked would they have to print it out or is it down to there discretion?

Also is anyone else in this position of not knowing how much you earn? I know my basic pay but when i do overtime, it's hard to keep track of it without getting confused weather i'm going to get it in this month, or the next!

I've tryed to explain this the best i can so bare with me

So, can i get a print out of the hour's i've worked for the months pay, and is there a way i can get a print out of the extra time i've worked between the cut of dates, who would i go about this? maybe i'm just being stupid but i cannot for the life of me keep track of how much im earning, i can work it out, but due to the cut of dates i cannot work out how much i should get each month

Hopefully i've explained that good enough.

    Thanks!

Re: Work and week schedule's, proof?

I don't understand why the cut off changes every month. This shouldn't happen.

Do you get paid on the same day every month? We get paid on the last Friday of the month (just after midnight Thursday night), so they BACS transfer has to be in place on Wednesday with the bank. This means we have a cut off on that Monday morning. My pay varies every month due to having a basic salary and a day rate for every day I work offshore or away on jobs.

Sounds like your work place is very disorganised when it comes to this. How do you record your hours? Is that your responsibility, or are you asked to work those hours in advance and there for it's your managers responsibility for keeping things up to date?

Perhaps HR is a good start to get to the bottom of this.

Re: Work and week schedule's, proof?

I'd be surprised if they refused to provide you with a record of when you've worked, but I don't know if they *have* to - it's possible it could be treated as a request under data protection in which case they'd have to do it but could charge you a "reasonable" admin fee. The obvious person to talk to first would be your line manager, or you could just contact your company's wages department directly. I'd ask your line manager about but tag "...of if you let me have the phone number for wages I could contact them directly..." onto the end of the conversation, which will almost guarantee that they'll give you the number to avoid dealing with your question directly

As to your other question, I once had an entire year when I didn't know from week to week if I would get paid or not because my pay claims had to be signed by the head of my department who was an academic professor and almost impossible to pin down. So I quite often went 3 - 4 weeks without pay before suddenly finding 5 weeks pay hitting my bank account all at once!

For people who are paid monthly and have to hand in overtime sheets to claim for extra hours I suspect it's not uncommon to end up in your situation. The only time I've done a job where I did a lot of overtime it was a factory with a proper clocking in & out system so I never had any problems...

Thanks for the response, You could say there disorganised! What with a line manager who is...not so good at "there" job and a manager who gets confused easily XD But forget that,

I get paid on the last working day of each month, I've also always wondered how true it is about the cut of date,

I would be fine paying a small admin fee if i had print outs of the hours i worked! Going to bring this up tomoz.

Re: Work and week schedule's, proof?

Hmmm, last working day of the month is a *very* movable feast, depending on how many days in the month, when the weekends fall, if there's any bank holidays etc... so cut off dates are likely to be quite movable as well (I get paid the penultimate working day of each month, which can be anywhere between about the 25th and the 30th...!).

That said, the chances are that payroll publish that information well in advance and a good manager would look up the cut off date each month, knowing that their staff would want to know it...

Easy, keep a list of your hours in Excel, remember to deduct breaks from your time you get paid and then as you get each pay slip, go down the list using the "SUM" display option near the system clock and stop when you've reached the number of hours you've been paid for. Highlight these and keep going

Next month, start from where you've stopped last time, and if you can't make the hours add up properly, query the missing shifts (for example if you did a shift on the 31st, it'll likely move into next month's pay packet, if it doesn't show up on the next month but most of the other ones do, then ask what happened).

Re: Work and week schedule's, proof?

To expand on Lucio's idea, if you're paid on the last working day of the month the chances are that your overtime is worked one month in hand, so e.g. overtime worked between 1st August and 31st August inclusive will be paid on the last working day of September, and so on. If that's not the system that your employer uses, they're even worse than you've already made them sound and you need to find a new job ASAP But if I was you I'd look back over your last few wage slips to try to tie in your overtime pay with the overtime hours worked in the *previous* full month. If that ties in (which would make sense), then just make sure you put your overtime claim in as early as possible at the start of each month...

My manager says he doesnt know this, so would i be right in thinking i need to move up higher and contact HR?

Cant say i own excel, is there an alternative i can use?

    ""edit""

What do you mean "overtime claim" the overtime i work just gets added onto my wages, comes up under overtime worked and the amount of hours but not the dates worked or in between dates worked, a right pain!

Re: Work and week schedule's, proof?

I was in a situation like this with my old boss last year. He needed me to do some overtime, fair enough. He ammended the rosters by hand but not on the HR system. Me thinking that he'd ammended the HR system did the extra hours for two weeks.

When the following months wage slip was pushed into my hand I was something like 22 hours overtime not paid for. When I challenged him he said I hadn't done any extra hours and that if it wasn't on the HR system then I couldn't have worked those hours because he'd have ammended the system.

As I hadn't written down all the shifts I'd worked those weeks I'd no proof I'd done it so therefore he flat refused to pay me. Needless to say any extra hours I'd did after that I put them in the calander on my phone, he never did it again though but I always made sure after that he'd ammended the HR system to suit.

Always keep track of any extra hours you do, you'll never know when you need to sort a dispute out.

B - A little story for you, i had a weeks holiday and it ended up being deducted from my wages, took them 2 months to sort it out. When they sorted it out i got payed it but to make matters worse it went into my months pay and oddly enough (i was owed about £120 BTW) i got TAXED £90 odd! bare in mind i normaly only get TAXED about £6 -£10 so you can imagine how miffed i was! raised it to my manager and was told there was nothing he could do oh well

Lets hope this doesnt happen again! i will be using that openoffice and getting use to it.

If you've been taxed wrongly, you need to take it up with HMRC rather than your employer.

If you add everything up at the end of the year you'll know if there were any mistakes.

Fair enough - not too surprising that your employer didn't do anything about it though
