Well isn't there now evidence to bring a charge of blackmai against him or his company?

This is bunny and friends. He is fed up waiting for everyone to help him out, and decided to help himself instead!
Are you allowed to use evidence obtained through illegal methods in court?
Probably not as it wouldn't be admissible as evidence (but I am not a lawyer). It might be admissible in a civil action though, and The Law Society might take an interest. But the publicity won't be very good for him, or his firm.
But, however dubious his practices, it still doesn't legitimise copyright theft.

This evidence, no, but I'm sure a smart prosecutor, could easily claim this as some kind of CI/probable cause or similar and get a warrant for the actual hardware, which I imagine would be needed for anything criminal. Although I'm sure that hardware is currently getting an introduction to Gutmann.
Correct, but however dubious copyright theft, it does not legitimise blackmail, theft and intimidation.

- there is a sort of poetic justice at seeing this guy getting his come-uppance. I think the Germans have a word for it - schadenfreude

If these e-mails are really so damning, then get to the court house on Monday with your Million+ lawsuit to get to the front of the bankruptcy queue!
Nice to see another scam lawyer get what they deserve.

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out
Possible £500k fine now too. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-11418970
I'm really starting to like these guys they're doing more damage to MPAA, BPI etc ridiculous campaigns than EFF, ACLU and all the rest put together
4chan does do some good from time to time.
The problem is they tend to get a bit bored and move on to other things quickly. Channology is the prime example. After the mass attacks on scientology at the start its been pretty dead since.

Unless somebody managed to actually steal the rights to the content, this was not copyright theft - it was copyright infringement.Originally Posted by Peterb & chuckskull

Copyright infringement is not theft. And it's not even possible to directly equate an infringement to a lost sale.
Now that's not to say that infringment of copyright doesn't have a negative affect on the right holders, who should receive money for distribution of their work, but if we allow falsehoods such as "infringement = theft" to perpetuate, then we end up in a situation where the response to combat infringement is disproportional... and then we see news stories like this.

From what I've seen ICO generally don't mess about tbh, but as he said, he can't do much more than fine them, but who's going to hire someone who causes so much embarrassment and damage again?
Quite right Steve. Fair play.
