I dont mind multiple reports - but one of the things that catches my attention when I am scanning the boards is a new username in a thread, particularly one that has 'certain characteristics' - and I'll have a look.
If the last name is a known member I'm more likely to pass it by, so a 'reported' message may cloak a spammer (at least until I check my e mails) - and there was one occasion when I inadvertently banned the reporter as well as the spamer, because they were in the thread - but luckily I spotted it before he did and reversed it - I'm now older and (a little) wiser!

Spam's one of those odd things that you don't notice when it's not there (if that makes sense). tbh I've not noticed huge amounts of spam on Hexus at any point during my time here - whether that's down to good moderation, a pro-active user base (i.e. regular users reporting spam quickly) or cunning behind-the-scenes anti-spam I couldn't say.
Three cheers for Steve if he has done some anti-spam magic wicci stuff behind the scenes though
I've noticed that we don't get the spammer whos got a clicking neck popping out of the woof work every so often.
I don't ever seem to get a chance to report about spam as normally I've been beaten to it, there has been the odd time I've seen it and reported before anyone else has, but thats because I'm on the net at odd times of the day at the moment (its not un common now to find me still awake passed 1 am)
We used to get the odd spammer a few times a week, now it's more like once, maybe twice a month.
i've noticed the spam and bots only seem to post late at night, this way there post stays for a little while, i think it's a way to keep the post there for longer? who know's
That and spammers usually operate out of different time zones to us
For legal reasons and equal opportunities we aren't allowed to say which time zones.
All three really. Steve's magic captures a lot before it appears on the forum but the regular reports from the eagle-eyed community plays a large part. The mod team can't be over a site as large as HEXUS all the time, so those reports really DO make a difference. (Although we do get one or two ourselves! )
Six to seven in the morning is a good time for spam hunting!

Steve's magic is quite good - I remember a spam bot author actually posting here to try and figure out what was going on
I think I remember that too, but I've slept since then.
It remember it was rather good we all had fun teasing him, then he got deleted!

You sure it wasn't Neckclicker ?
there was a youtube vid of him being interviewed by someone about his life and problems, it was all fantastically surreal.

How about adding a line of text to the report post page: http://forums.hexus.net/report.php Asking users not to post or tag a thread when reporting spam, etc. I always used to add a new post after I'd reported so adding something there might help save some work.
I've also noticed, and appreciated the lack of spam lately. Got a bit hectic with all those credit card spamming. Good job done

I've added a message to the report post page advising people not to interact with spam posts other than to hit the report button. Thanks.
