    New Laptop

Not sure if this is exactly the best place to put this but anyways...

Thinking of getting a new Laptop to replace the aging netbook. Would like it to be:
    - Around £400 mark
    - 15.6"-17" screen
    - Able to play oldish games (Mostly RTS etc.)

    And thats about it!

Was looking at this but not sure, not a massive fan of Acer. Any suggestions?

This laptop has a GeForce G310M which means it will slightly faster at games than laptops using the HD graphics found in the 45NM Core i5 processors:

This laptop has a Mobility Radeon HD5470:

The Mobility Radeon HD5470 is meant to faster than a GeForce G320M:

    Re: New Laptop

I am currently sat here typing this on a Pavillion dv6. Excellent bit of kit, the gpu has enough grunt to play Crysis at moderate settings, so will deal with RTS games of a few years back, has no trouble with C&C Generals with everything up full, to be honest I don't really use it for games, I just bought it as I fancied having a machine with enough graphical clout if I wanted it.

Battery life isn't that great but is more than I need in day to day use, it is built well, keyboard is lovely, speakers aren't half bad for a laptop and the screen is lovely, bright and clear.

It also comes with HP's instant on OS (can't remember what it is called) which is handy for some people for some quick web browsing/email.

My main gripe is the amount of HP tat that is pre-installed and unlike Dell machines they don't give you a bare OS disc to re-install from even though you have a licence for it (I had a huge, huge arguement with HP about this). If you were to get one I would recommend finding someone with a 7 Home Premium disc that you can use to do a wipe and re-install with, speeds things up massively as the HP rubbish always tries to boot on startup.

Apart from that gripe I would highly recommend it.

    Re: New Laptop

Yes, I had that issue with my HP Laptop too, I spent hours de-crapifying it !

Then a friend of mine had a spare copy of Windows 7 HP 64 he didn't want to gave it to me

That said, mine had Vista on it, and that slows pretty much anything down.
