    Female Influences on young minds...

Last week, I met a teach while I was food shopping. She taught me (and Deckard) how to use a sewing machine.

At Chesham High School it was compulsory to do both needlwork style lessons, although it was mainly sweatshirts and patches and stuff, and to do cookery lessons.

For 2 years we had no choice....in amongst the Maths and Chemistry and Cross Country Running , Geography and stuff like that....we had several quite long lessons per week where we learned stuff.

As I stood in the que, I recognised this lady, and introduced myself and allowed her to guess my name, but didn't let her struggle...poor woman must have taught thousands and thousands....

but she did it , and we chatted briefly, she asked about Deckard too, and we went our seperate ways.

And as she left I realised that it was partly her and her cookery colleague that made me who I am....

So ladies.....if you have or want children...I strongly urge you to try to choose a school that spreads its lessons across lots of stuff....make sure that things that are even NOW considered Girly, are forced into young minds....

cos I can STILL thread a Belina sewing machine with little or no thought...

I cook, and more importantly, cos of my Cookery lessons, I CLEAN too....my cookery teacher, drummed that in BIG TIME......she was a star too....

What do you lot think of blokes with girly ways? SOme blokes are very very blokey...and I know of several lasses who would HATE to see their boyfriends ironing, cos its not masculine enough....

    whats THAT all about?

Well I do the vast majority of cooking, all the sewing/ironing in our house. Mi mum tought all 3 of us lads how to be self sufficient. Not tidy tho, that bit didn't work. The only place I tidy is the kitchen & it has to be spotlessly clean.
I dont like a dirty house, but I can live with untidy. Well with anything between 2 & 4 kids in the house it's gonna get untidy innit.

I dont have a problem with tumble ironing, in fact he does a better job then me often making himself late for work, cos the shirt has to be perfect if he wants to do the washin thats fine as well, as long as he remembers the colours and to remove EVERYTHING out of the machine.....

The only thing he seems unwilling to do and needs chasing for, is cleaning the kitchen and doing the dishes.

Yeah i like a domesticated man why should we do all the hard work?

my school had compulsary sewing and cookery classes for the first 2 years too. It was fun with the blokes joinging in too. One of me best mates in first and second year was a bloke and we were always partners in crime when it came to home economics

I say bring it on Lads have to be able to live on their own and do stuff for themselves, so the earlier they learn the better

Whoa, you sound like a good guy I must say !
We have that kinda classes in my school too, but you don't have to do the cooking etc you can choose to do something else instead. And the guys (often) choose something else.

I would also like a guy who can take care of the washin as stuff like that , well I have to taught my boyfriend how to do stuff like that first . So that I don't have to do everything when I move in with him!

Has to be said I do most of the "girly" stuff in our house such as ironing etc. I wouldn't stop Barry if he wanted to do it, but I would be worried about the white washing coming out pink etc (not that I've ever done that before )

It's not a forgone conclusion that if you're a girl you can automatically do this stuff. I know a female who is a year younger than me who cannot cook at all (nearly set the kitchen on fire by burning spagetti!!!), who has no clue about washing clothes (puts clothes away in the cupboard wet so they end up covered in mould) and cannot even wash dishes properly. This is without a word of a lie, I lived with her for 5 months and ended up having to bin half my wardrobe due to her putting it away in her wardrobe wet and getting it covered in mould

Oooh! That doesn't sound so funny, I wouldn't like to have my clothes covered in mould. And sure, you're right just because you're a girl, you can't automatically do that kinda stuff...but even though there are way more guys who can't handle that kinda stuff, or at least what I've seen. Or they just don't wanna show it.

But I know there are guys who do this stuff and Hurray! for you all!

Best place to find a guy that can do washing/ironing etc is to get one that's been in the army/navy etc. They gotta do it themselves there

Compulsory Zak? Pah, I opted for Home Econmics (cooking and stuff) instead of metalwork! Why? Well, it was a choice of being stuck in a classroom full of blokes getting hot and sweaty over Anvils and stuff, or sit a class full of girls.

Still, it taught me how to cook, how to iron and most importantly, how to get along with women.

thats quite domesticating of your school - i'm not afraid to say my schools didn't teach me that sort of stuff. at my schools the men were real men (and so were som of the girls!) playing rugby and learning how to blow stuff up in chemistry...
also that when I was there it was only co-ed from lower 6th form up so i guess the need to teach 'life skills' didn't really come into it. hey I'm not sorry I went to a good private school but I do see the value of learning about the things that really matter when you take everything away, things you just Need! hell, its far cheaper to mend your own holes in clothes than repaired at dry-cleaner's...thats one thing i do perhaps which they'd taught us at school. I know zip about taxes apart from needing to pay them, morgages; how do they work? you know, stuff like that...

thankfully being a uni student for 4 years has taught me how to take care of myself but the learning curve got very steep at the begining!

Zak, you forgot the most important one, I can do cooking, washing, cleaning, sewing (mum and grandad where in the clothes industry so got exposed to all that at a young age) without fuss, Ironing IF I REALLY must, BUT can i put a Duvet cover on a duvet, i SWEAR there is a rule that blokes cannot put a duvet cover on without getting into the cover itself to sort it out....

Can't remember that one being taught in school

I can't wait for my own place again to be honest to allow myself to relax to music while cooking food etc etc, i find a lot of pleasure can be had from simple things like this.
